Ring. Ring. Ring. “What is it?” Medkit sighed, picking up the phone. A raspy voice greeted him from the other side. “Hello, Medkit,” Subspace’s voice was cold as he hissed the words at him. This was Subspace’s way of showing love, and Medkit was tired of it. He was tired of the ways Subspace would treat him, mentally and physically punishing him for even the smallest mistake. “Hello, Subspace,” Medkit responded back, trying to keep the negative emotion out of his tone. “Where are youuuu,” Subspace whined, a hint of boredom in his voice. “I’ll be back soon, don’t you worry. I just have to finish a few things up,” Medkit replied, irritated. Why did Subspace always need Medkit to be around him? Subspace needed Medkit for so much, yet he gave Medkit nothing in return. Nothing, except mental scars. Medkit sometimes would struggle to fall asleep at night, afraid of what Subspace might do to him. And when he did sleep, Subspace’s words were all he could think about. Medkit felt a twinge of pain in his arm, and remembered the night before, where Subspace had gripped so hard onto Medkit’s wrist that small beads of blood had started to trickle out. It didn’t hurt as much as before, but Medkit was anxious about the wound, afraid of it getting infected. His powers didn’t work the greatest on himself. “Okay byee Meddy!” Subspace giggled like a little girl before hanging up the phone. Medkit grumbled to himself about hating his life as he packed up, pausing for a moment to stare at an old photo of him and Subspace that sat on his desk. Subspace didn’t look any kinder in the photo then he did now. He had always been this unkind. And Medkit had always put up with him. ————————————————————— Medkit gently knocked on the door of the apartment he and Subspace shared, to no response. Weird. Subspace was never this quiet, especially not when Medkit got home. He tentatively opened the door, fearing that Subspace would suddenly jump out at him. Subspace was indeed there, sitting relaxed on the table with a fizzy drink in his hand. “Ah, hello Meddy! I was wondering when you’d get home,” Subspace set his drink on the table and stood up. Medkit tried to keep his hands from shaking. He didn’t like how Subspace was advancing towards him.”So, um, what did you do today, Subspace?” Medkit asked, trying to change the subject as he shuffled away from Subspace. “You know, the usual. Did a couple things then went home,” Subspace replied. “Hey, do you have to work tonight?” He added. Medkit gulped. He wish he had work. “No, I don’t.,” Medkit sighed, collecting himself. “Why do you ask?” “That’s great! I’m free too, so we could go out and do something together!” Subspace’s eyes shined as he started tobrainstorm ideas. “We could watch a movie, go out to eat, maybe. Or I could show you the invention I’m working on!” Medkit had to say yes. If he didn’t, Subspace would pressure him until he folded, or do even worse things until Medkit obliged. “A movie would be nice,” Medkit responded, faking a smile. “Great! Let’s do it!” Subspace grinned.
