The wind howled eerily. Irene could hear the wind from her sheltered nursery, its loud breath like a wolf in pain. The heavy sound of a footstep caught her attention. The sound of muffled whispering. It seemed to come from below the castle, deep underground, close enough for its sounds to reach her. Nursie told her it was only the water in the mines. But Irene knew that wasn't the truth. On a wintery evening, the castle inhabitants were chattering in the living room, and Irene was alone yet again. Mixed feelings, mostly of boredom filled her. She felt frightened on her own, but she also seeked some fun. She stepped out of her room, gently closing the door behind her so as not to make a sound. Moonlight flooded into the hallway, its ghostly glow casting her pale skin in silver light. Her golden hair shone as she ran to the end of the hallway, carefully opening the door at the end as though a monster would jump out. At the back of the room, an old woman sat beside a spinning wheel, its wooden frame covered in golden flowers. Irene did not recognise her; she was a completely unfamiliar figure. With caution, she approached the old woman and peered curiously at her. 'Who are you?' She asked. 'My name is Irene.' The old lady replied. 'Irene? But that's MY name!' 'Yes, but it was originally my name. You were named after me.' 'Oh! I never knew that...' 'Well, now you do.' The old woman smiled. 'I better get going.' Irene told her, and with that left the room, shutting the door behind her. But before heading back to her room, she heard a faint whisper. It said: 'Follow where it leads.' That was when she noticed the silky, silvery string trailing along the ground. And so she followed it.
