Planeswalkers With 4 Abilities Over Time 2010: The first 4-Ability was Jace, the Mind Sculptor. It was an extremely powerful card that let you bounce creatures, scry, fateseal, and brainstorm, as well as exiling your opponent's deck and replacing it with their hand if you managed to get it to 12 loyalty. Suffice to say, the card quickly became one of the best in the game and set the precedent that 4-ability Planeswalkers were extremely powerful. 2013: Jace, the Mind Sculptor was reprinted in From the Vault: Twenty. 2014: Garruk, Apex Predator became the second 4-ability Planeswalker. While certainly underwhelming not just compared to Jace but compared to all Planeswalkers, it showed that balanced 4-ability Planeswalker could exist, setting the stage for later entries to this list. Jace, the Mind Sculptor was reprinted. 2016: We received Chandra, Torch of Defiance, which was more similar to Jace than Garruk, with a cheap casting cost and impactful abilities that made it a real threat. Also, Jace, the Mind Sculptor was reprinted. 2017: Hour of Devastation gave us a 4-ability version of the story main antagonist, Bolas, in Nicol Bolas, God-Pharoah. This Grixis powerhouse could cast your opponents spells for free, shrink their hand, and remove their creatures. 2018: Nicol Bolas, the Ravager was the first creature with a 4-ability Planeswalker on it's back. 2020: Chandra, Torch of Defiance, Jace, the Mind Sculptor, and Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh were reprinted in Kaladesh Remastered, Double Masters, and Amonkhet Remastered respectively. 2021: Wrenn and Seven was released in Innistrad: Night Hunt, based off a one-off Planeswalker from Modern Horizons that ended up being really powerful. It retained the same lands theme as its predecessor but lost its red color and graveyard synergy. 2022: Chandra's mentor, Jaya Ballard, got a 4-ability planeswalker. More importantly, we got Urza, Planeswalker, which is the only 5-ability Planeswalker that exists. It also can use two loyalty abilities per turn, an absurdly powerful effect. 2026: In Secrets of Strixhaven, we got Dellian Fel and Ral Zarek, Guest Lecturer, two cards that have proven themselves to be extremely powerful due to their cheap cost and wide variety of strong effects. Finally, we've seen that Reality Fracture will have a reprint of Chandra, Torch of Defiance, as well as Chandra, Chill of Compliance, a blue version of the card with effects that mirror it while remaining in-pie for blue. And that's every Planeswalker with 4 or more abilities. As Planeswalker are being used more sparingly, they have become more common to add the excitement of them. This group contains some of the most powerful cards in MTG history, and that trend will likely continue in the future.
