I am currently planning a new Scratch game and am looking for artists and coders who may be interested in helping develop it. The Concept The game takes place on a massive 500-mile highway running through a dangerous jungle that has completely reclaimed the surrounding world. The player is attempting to complete a long migration through this wilderness. Along the journey they will encounter abandoned buildings, overgrown gas stations, rusting vehicles, dangerous plants, wildlife, pit stops, supply caches, and many other obstacles. The goal is not simply to survive a single encounter. The goal is to survive the entire journey. Atmosphere One of the biggest focuses of the project is atmosphere. Imagine driving down an empty highway and finding: * An abandoned gas station covered in vines * Moss-covered signs * Rusting trucks parked beside the road * Dense jungle pressing against the highway * Strange sounds coming from the trees * Evidence that people once lived here The world should feel like nature has slowly reclaimed everything. The game is intended to be realistic in appearance and heavily focused on environmental storytelling. Flora Many plants in the jungle serve gameplay purposes. Examples include: * Vine traps * Giant pitcher plants * Venus fly traps * Spore-producing plants * Other dangerous jungle flora Plants are not intended to exist purely as decoration. Most plants either create obstacles, consume resources, waste time, or force the player to make decisions. Resource Traps Players may occasionally find items such as food cans on the side of the road. These can be: * Genuine resources * Harmless junk * Plant traps The player must decide whether the reward is worth the risk. Fauna The jungle also contains wildlife. Examples include: Giant Road Toad A large toad that can block the road. It may not directly harm the player, but it can: * Waste valuable time * Consume resources * Expose the player to additional encounters Possible counters may include: * Owl sounds * Snake sounds * Other tools and strategies Wildlife is intended to create interesting situations rather than simply acting as enemies. Preparation and Tools Preparation is a major gameplay mechanic. Players may collect and use tools such as: * Machetes * Knives * Crowbars * Poles * Sound devices * Medical supplies Different tools are effective against different threats. Examples: * Machetes can cut vines * Knives can cut through pitcher plants * Crowbars or poles can hold open fly traps A prepared player has more options than an unprepared player. Survival Systems Planned survival systems include: * Food * Fuel * Vehicle damage * Resource management * Temporary conditions * Long-term conditions Temporary Problems Examples: * Wet socks * Minor injuries * Irritation * Fatigue Long-Term Problems Examples: * Infections * Vehicle damage * Resource shortages Some temporary problems may eventually become long-term problems if ignored. Encounter System Many dangerous encounters do not immediately result in failure. Instead, they create a decision. For example: A vine suddenly wraps around the player. The screen fades to black. Text appears describing the situation. The player then has a limited amount of time to react. Possible options may include: * Use Machete * Use Knife * Use Crowbar * Struggle * Use another available item The player may have approximately five seconds to decide. Making the correct choice can allow the player to escape. Making the wrong choice may result in injuries, lost resources, wasted time, or failure. This system is intended to create tension while remaining suitable for Scratch. No graphic content, blood, or gore is planned. Danger is primarily communicated through atmosphere, text, sound, and decision-making. Design Philosophy A major design goal is: "Everything should have a purpose." Features are not added simply because they look cool. Most objects, tools, plants, animals, and locations should either: * Create decisions * Provide opportunities * Introduce risks * Affect the player's journey The game aims to balance accessibility for newer players while still rewarding skilled and prepared players. Looking For Artists People who enjoy creating: * Jungle environments * Buildings * Vehicles * Plants * Wildlife * UI elements * Environmental details Coders People who enjoy creating: * Systems * Menus * Inventory mechanics * Encounters * Resource management * Gameplay features If this project sounds interesting, feel free to comment down below to reach out!
A coder is almost CERTAINLY needed, as I am not as good at coding as I would like to be. Depending on my lvl of determination, the models might look good, and I might not even need an artist, just an animator for the animations. Then again, I might not EVER lock in on this (Going into the flow state at 1-3 A.M. to work on the game models), so I might need a vector/pixel artist.
