Or pride month this year I decided to draw some characters from a novel I’m working on with a guy named Koda and @RosieRules1520 called The 20%. Our characters are Marissa (left), Jesse (right), and their non-binary baby Quail. The 20% is a science fiction novel about a group of children who were experimented on and given special powers. The book focuses on the ‘recollection’ of these children by the massacre of their friends and family. Quail is a main character whose current age is 15. They indentify as non-binary with they/them pronouns. Marissa is away from home a lot because she works as a flight attendant, and Jesse is a real estate agent. As a side effect of the experiment, Quail was a very sickly and weak child and was diagnosed with COPD at birth at had to be put under because of tricuspid atresia, which is the lack of the tricuspid valve and causes oxygen to not be able to properly distribute around the body. This was later repaired in several major surgeries. Quail spent most of their young life in the hospital, giving them lots of PTSD. When they were seven, their mothers finally realized how badly their child was being treated and took her home permanently. Quail still suffers from shortness of breath, dizziness, and chronic fainting / insomnia. Quail is very energetic, sarcastic, stubborn, and silly. Rosie calls her a ‘silly goose’. They are also very insecure because they’re scared that their condition makes them weak. This is an image of Quail and Jesse and Marissa Jones together in a hypothetical where they got to be together. Also Quail’s frog costume and Marissa’s goldfish dress are my favorite things about this art. Quail’s blanket is a non-binary flag :3
Art by me, characters by me, @RosieRules1520 , and Koda. If you like this novel idea, voice your support in the comments and on @RosieRules1520 ‘s profile.
