(breaking character for a bit, these were originally made as silly little concepts from a back-and-forth I had with my brother about a weird variants of television logos. in particular, I brought up a fanmade cn logo that looked WAY off from how it usually looked (to be specific, it was a custom logo used in a couple of wbrb episodes. with the screenshot being from dev log 4) which prompted him to say, and I quote, "the demon of babylon disguises himself with the coat of the righteous". I (initally) got VERY confused, before telling me that it looked like somebody tried faking the 2005 logo to... limited success, so to speak. this is where I said "imagine weird entities that they to mimic logos but fail horribly". which then reminded me of the fact that this already kinda happened, with the likes of nic ke lodeo and such (which is actually what this idea was inspired by!) with my brother saying this a bit later, quote: "ngl the idea of a weird "mimic network" trying to copy the look and feel of a channel's on-air branding and slowly getting better at it" with the message having a tt video showing a "mimic" (which may or may not be a damaged record player if I had to guess) trying to imitate a ringtone, with each playback getting better and better until it sounds exactly like the guy's ringtone. then, after a bit more banter, I made the first concept for the mimic's "nick" form. which lead me into also doing cn, with mentions of disney channel being something I would also do. since I was doing all 3 of the biggest kids networks for this. also mentioning that text anomalies would be hard to do since disney's corporate font is all sorts of fancy. which is where I got the idea of the mimic only having basic knowledge of fonts (i.e. it only really knows about sans serif font and that's about it) with it altering the typeface to be something more readable to them. after some tweaking I did with the vectors (sometimes with the help of my brother) I also mentioned the possibility of a pbs mimic. which WILL come soon, I promise.)
