╭──────────────────╮ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ⅲ .disability / disorder research ╰──────────────────╯ disorder overview ☞ selective mutism detailed research ☞ selective mutism is a anxietiy-based disorder where the paitent is fearful or unwilling to speak in certian repeatable circumstances. SM is always present, but can fade and be less distinct over time. While the inability to speak can be caused by certain circumstances, most people with SM try not to speak at all when possible. My experience is that at certain times it is almost impossible to speak, and feels forceful or painful to do so when the circumstance causes it to act up, and discourges other speach.
