☀︎ Calling all community helpers! ☀︎ This camp, hosted by @TennisMaster_123 and @ScratchyLime, who are two experienced community helpers and members of the Scratch Mentor Program, is perfect for any Scratcher who wants to start community helping, help around more, or continue helping out around the community! Whether you joined yesterday and want to learn how to be kinder around Scratch, or you have already curated dozens of official studios, this camp will cater to your needs. Here is the main studio for this camp: https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/51736328/ In this camp, you’ll: • Discover how and where to help the Scratch community • Share and receive advice and stories about community helping • Meet more Scratchers passionate about helping the community • Practice helping out in official Scratch studios • Learn more about Scratch itself with cool activities • And have fun! You will have a blast in this camp! ☀︎ Timing ☀︎ The camp will run from July 1 to mid-August, perfect for the summer when there’s no school. We will also be very flexible in case you have to go on a trip or hiatus. No assignment is mandatory! ☀︎ FAQs ☀︎ Q: How long is this camp? A: The camp goes from July 1 to mid-August, so it will be during summer break in many countries. Q: Who is hosting this camp? A: @TennisMaster_123 (Ella) and @ScratchyLime (Lime) are hosting this camp! They are both Scratchers who have experience helping out in the community. They are also members of the Scratch Mentor Program. Q: What if I’m on a trip or taking an exam during the camp? A: That’s okay! You don’t have to do every lesson or participate in each thing. We are very flexible. Q: What is the time commitment? A: Not that much! As has been already said, you can choose not to participate all the time. If you’re reading this, the codewrd is “code”! There will be a new lesson every week, and it will not take much time to do. You probably will spend 30 minutes or less a week, or you could spend way more or less, depending on how much effort you put in. Q: I have already curated a bunch of official studios/I have no idea what community helping even is! Can I still join? A: Yes, definitely! The camp is open to anyone, no matter experience or length of time on Scratch. Any “more experienced” campers can offer more advice, and any “less experienced” campers can get a lot out of the advice and learn a lot! Q: What types of activities will there be in this camp? What will the schedule be like? A: There are seven weeks of this camp. The first one is a shorter week for introductions and icebreakers, followed by a few weeks of learning all about the community guidelines, official studios, and more cool tidbits, and that’s proceeded by two weeks of simulations of official studios where you will interact in an environment very similar to the Scratch Welcoming Committee, Scratch Design Studio, Scratch Event Studios, and Propose Projects to be Featured. Finally, the last week of camp will be a special surprise that will combine everything you’ve already learnt. It’ll be loads of fun! Lessons will be released every Monday, except for the first week. ☀︎ Rules ☀︎ • Follow all Community Guidelines • Be kind and respectful to all fellow campers and counselors (and to everyone, lol!) • If you will be inactive for some part of the camp, it is preferred if you let or know. • IMPORTANT! Being a “community helper” is not a title to flaunt. It’s also not something that’s concrete. There are many different definitions of “community helper”, and it is not a seniority position. You should not use the term “community helper” to decide that you are better than anybody else. You should also not discourage anyone from becoming a “community helper”. This camp is only to help people learn more about helping in the community. It’s not about building upon a “title”. • Reach out to or with any questions! ☀︎ How to Join ☀︎ Simply fill out this form to join! Remember that we accept anyone, no matter experience!
