The sun shined, and a leaf-fall breeze blew through her fur. She had spent the last pawful of days grieving and mourning for Mischiefmiracle, shutting her emotions away from the outside world, hardly speaking to cats. But when Marie had left her den this morning, seeing kits play, apprentices train, warriors chat, and felt the sun on her fur, the excitement of being an apprentice any day now, a spark of hope lit in her chest, and grew rapidly. For the first time in days, she smiled. Perhaps there was hope for the future. Perhaps she would make bunches of friends, and have a family like she dreamed. She would meet her littermates for the first time soon, and then hazy memories of them would be replaced with fresh ones. Before Marvel could take a single step forward, a horrible yowl rung through the air. Two gray, gigantic, lumbering forms stepped into camp. Wolves. She watched helplessly as cats fought for their lives, as sparks of life and fear and anger went out in eyes. A wolf turned, facing Marie with a hungry snarl. Mar's claws dug into the dirt, disturbing the brown earth. May couldn't fight- she hardly could win the fight with Fable. Marie didn't know what to do. So she attempted to fight. Attempted. She was nearly an apprentice, wasn't she? *** Marie gasped for air. The wolf, uninterested in her now, continued through camp. But Marvel still lay, struggling to cling onto life. No, it couldn't be the end, it couldn't be. She had a full life ahead. She had been full of hope this morning! It can't be the end, surely? Certainly a cat would rush to May to help her. To worry about her. To tell her it would be alright. Marvel couldn't look away as she lay. Blood spilled from her wound. She heard more yowls. Marie could. She could still smell. The familiar, comforting scent of her mother. Marvel remembered being. Being. A young kit. Playing with her littermates. And being curled up next to her mother. Then wondering why her littermates were gone. Mama told her that they had gone to other Clans, and May hadn't understood. And then Mama was gone. The Clan was very sad. And then there was Euphoriastar. What happened to Euphoriastar? Then there was Sizzlingstar. Marie's gaze began to blur. She remembered Mischiefmiracle. Letting her help out in the medic's den, and the way she had sworn to keep the “the best moss in all of the Clans” secret as she helped big brother fix up nests. She also remembered the fury in his gaze when she had almost poisoned FlurryClan's prey. She remembered her own anger towards Fablekit, and fighting him. Tears ran down Marvel's face. She remembered entering big brother's den, scared from a nightmare of the fight, and then finding out he was dead not very many days later. And now she was here. "I… I tried." She rasped. Marvel's tense body eased, and her eyelids fluttered shut. No one was coming to help the dying kit. After all, she was lost in the crowd of the cats who fell to the wolves. so the little life ended, taken from the Clans far, far too soon. ☼ Marvelpaw | | 0/1 | 0 | 6 code by song is hey doctor doctor by milk in the microwave I made the art I love you marvel.
