TW: Animal Death ❝Here is what they don’t tell you: Icarus laughed as he fell❞ Victoryvestige's paws felt heavy as she moved out to the beach. Another hunt. Another effort for a worthless clan that did nothing to help themselves. ❝Threw his head back and yelled into the winds, arms spread wide, teeth bared to the world.❞ She picked up her pace, the wind blowing against her long fur. She tilted her head up towards the sky, feeling the sun on her face. /This/ was the feeling of what she was supposed to have. Not being lumped with a bunch of worthless warriors. Victory. ❝(There is a bitter triumph in crashing when you should be soaring.)❞ Victoryvestige barely registered when she crossed from dry land into the frigid sea, only barely noticing how her paws lifted from the sand to paddle along. The waves rushed past her, but she kept pushing forwards. ❝The wax scorched his skin, ran blazing trails down his back, his thighs, his ankles, his feet.❞ Suddenly, she looked back, and the shore looked like a distant dream. She had never dared to go out so far before, but now, in her anger, here she was. Her limbs beginning to grow tired as she worked to keep herself afloat. ❝The wax scorched his skin, ran blazing trails down his back, his thighs, his ankles, his feet.❞ A shadow of a large creature swam past her paws. She looked down, her large green eyes staring into the abyss below her. Somehow, she knew this was it, she could feel the unease rising within her. ❝Death breathed burning kisses against his shoulders, where the wings joined the harness.❞ She tilted her face up towards the shining sun, feeling the warmth beat against her face one final time. Somehow, it felt nicer than usual, even with the knowledge that death was near. For the first time in a while, she let out a soft laugh, even if it was a sad one. There was no more outrunning it. Somehow, some way, she had outrun death on that exploration. But no one could escape it forever, could they? ❝The sun painted everything in shades of gold.❞ Victoryvestige tilted her head back down to stare into the face of death itself. The last thing she saw was the flash of rows of sharp, white teeth. Then there was darkness. And so, the last vestige of that forgotten exploration, that horrible memory that everyone else had moved on from so very quickly, gone. Not a vestige anymore, only a memory of what once was.
Poem - "Rewriting Icarus" by Fiona I... have been planning this for some time now. My last cat died from elder rolls, and I really didn't want that to be the final page of Victoryvestige's story because it just. doesn't feel like her. So... shark attack? When I first heard UrchinClan has sharks I was like "YES. That's it. That's the one."
