In June 2026, Tree was in Brazil as part of his headlining concert tour in support of his fourth studio album, *Love You Madly, Hate You Badly*. The tour had begun on May 30 in Mexico City and was scheduled to include more than 70 performances across 30 countries on all seven continents, with future stops planned in China, Japan, Antarctica, New Zealand, and South Africa. After performing in Buenos Aires on June 4 and São Paulo on June 6, he traveled to Rio de Janeiro. In the days leading up to the accident, Tree remained active on social media. Just hours before the incident, he shared Instagram Stories from a local music studio alongside other artists and was also seen playing football in a neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. On the morning of June 14, 2026, Tree was one of five people aboard a helicopter registered as PP-MAC and operated by Turfik Comércio de Frutas. The aircraft collided midair with another helicopter, registration PR-DJJ, over Recreio dos Bandeirantes, a beachside neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. All six people aboard the two helicopters were killed in the crash. Among the other victims were Argentine YouTuber Gaspi and film director Lucas A. Vignale. Following the announcement of his death, Melanie Martinez, who dated Tree from 2019 to 2020, posted an emotional tribute on Instagram, remembering his unwavering dedication to his art, his kindness, and his enduring sense of “childlike wonder and awe.” Electric vehicle manufacturer BYD also released an official statement expressing condolences to the victims’ families and offering support to local authorities. The cause of the midair collision remains under investigation by Brazil’s Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA), the Third Regional Service for the Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (SERIPA III), and the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC).
