The distinct sound of trumpeting filled my ear as I paddled faster, faster! I couldn't d!3 today! The swan followed behind closely, creating large waves with its large white feathers. I didn't dare to look back, I kept paddling faster and faster. My kayak started to wobble, and my heart dropped. No, I couldn't fall into the water...I couldn't. I kept paddling my kayak, leveling out again. I let out a sigh of relief as the misty dock came into view, but that moment of peace was broken by the loud hiss of the swan behind me. I'd had enough bad interactions with swans in my life to know that the hissing sound only meant danger. As my kayak neared the dock, the sounds of hissing faded away and only distant trumpets could be heard. I let out a small sigh of relief. I reached the dock and lifted myself out of the kayak. After I got out, I pulled the kayak out, struggling because of the number of things I had packed. I had planned to go foraging and hunting, but the weather ended up disagreeing with me, so I had to turn back and paddle through the thick fog that coated the shores. That's when I accidentally ran into a swan, causing it to chase after me for a good 15 minutes. I let out a small huff, trying to forget what had happened, as I stored away my kayak and treaded towards the cabin my family and I lived in. I'm Trout Oswald, a 12-year-old loser living in the middle of nowhere (Maine) with my parents, who are both researchers. And my sister, the bane of my existence. Kestrel.
