One second, I'm at home, packing up, the next second, Kestrel and I board the airplane. The rest of the day is a blur; I can barely keep my eyes open. I awake on a small, cozy couch, my brother's dull blue eyes staring at me. "How was your beauty sleep, princess?" he asked, smirking. Kestrel cringed at my reaction as I punched him square in the jaw. "Oops, my finger slipped," I snapped, as I stomped away with Kestrel in tow. "What the heck was that for?!" she asked, still surprised. "I was just making sure he knew boundaries," I chuckled with a roll of my eye, unlocking the window to the bedroom and opening it. I was shocked by the freshness of the salty air. I looked back at Kestrel. "Let's make the most of this, ok?" I said firmly. I quickly scribbled a note to my brother, saying we'd be gone and leave the house after Kestrel. We didn't exactly know where we really were, but we knew the beach was right in front of us, and practically empty. Kestrel and I walked through a pathway, observing the small dunes surrounding us. Luckily, the scorching sun hadn't come out yet, so the weather was cool. Me and Kestrel and I lay on the beach watching the clouds drift by. "This is going to be a really long week," I groaned. I wiped the sand off my foot, squiring a bit. I hated the feeling of sand, the tiny grains getting stuck between my toes. I rose and headed towards the water, breathing in the fresh salty air. The crashing of the waves against my feet soothed me; maybe this trip wasn't that bad. If only I knew what waited for me when I got home. Or lack of...
