Right, first things first. How does the Voidian election system work? Voidia itself is split into numerous sectors, these sectors every 4 years vote for their representative in the two houses, the Parliamentary and Judaical. These two houses essentially each act like a massive oligarchy and ensure the emperor's power is kept in check (as to ensure no insane emperor ends up sending Voidia down under). These 2 houses also have the decision of voting for declaring war, rising taxes, blah blah stuff like that which is then forwarded to the Emperor who either approves or disapproves these choices. However the emperors counsel can appeal this. NOW BACK TO THE ELECTION! To put it lightly: the moderates are losing badly. No badly is an understatement they might as well not be on the ballot. The absolute death blow to the Moderate campaign is the revelation of their secret dealings during the Compact War. While the young Emperor was losing his mind ordering scorched-earth protocols to save Voidia, and while families across the sectors were watching their hometowns burn, the Moderates were in a backroom trading away 1/5th of the empire's ancestral land to the East just to buy a temporary peace. The action is by every definition: treason. The reason it was treason? The agreement did not have approval of the emperor (which to be fair makes sense they had an oncoming war where the GASI were about to have a massive influx of reinforcements) the panic caused the moderate parties politicians to sign. Not only that but when the people were told to leave the territory that was given during the deal they were told it was a strategic retreat. This was a blatant lie and hundreds of millions of Voidians were displaced (along with tens of millions of more who died). However telling the people what happened would have collapsed the war effort, it was viewed as a worthy required sacrifice that if not done would risk cussing Voidia to lose even more territory. But people do not care about politics. During the past few years extremism has risen in Voidia to palpable levels the population distrusts the current moderate party and anyone who does support them is essentially branded as a traitor to the entire species. The Imparat is destined to take hold at this rate. Arguably the Imparat doesn't even have to do anything. It can simply continue its current political plans portraying the moderates as incompetent and let the overwhelming early failures of the initial party destroy it inside out.
