~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ S H A LA Z U M ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ >> Alpha, Scratch Edition v1.0 by @IMAWarriors << ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DISCLAIMER!!! This project SHOULD work FINE on Scratch, BUT the TurboWarp experience will be FAR smoother and I have to admit that way back when I worked on this (some many years ago I think I don't even know how to figure out the history now) I DID develop a good portion in TurboWarp since it mitigated a lot of lag, which made it difficult to develop. https://turbowarp.org/1333385535 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Controls ****************************************** A-D / Left-Right Arrows...................................Walk W / Up Arrow..................................................Jump S / Down Arrow...Crouch / Talk / Bound Trampoline Space / Z.............................Melee Attack / Confirm M / X.................................................................Roll K / C...................................................Pause Menu O / V.........................................................Use Item ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Combos **************************************** Space/Z after previous Attack...........Combo Attack Hold W/Up..........................................Jump Higher W/Up during Fall......................................Paraglide A-D/Left-Right on Wall in Air...................Wall Slide W/Up during Wall Slide..........................Wall Jump S+O / Down+V.......................................Place Item Melee Attack + W/Up..............................Up Attack Fall + Melee Attack + S/Down.............Down Attack ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pause Menu **************************************** >> Use Movement Directions to operate the cursor in any menu >> Navigate to the tab icons at the top of the pause menu to change window >> There are three windows, in order: Melee, Items, and Charms window >> Press Confirm while hovering a tab to switch to that tab, or while over an item slot in any tab to Select it >> Press O / V to use a selected item in game >> Hover over a charm in the charms tab to see their description, and select one to Equip / Unequip ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So... What is this? **************************************** Good question! And no, it doesn't mean I'm "back" or anything, don't get any crazy ideas in your head! Nah this was a fun little test demo I was working on a while back whose scope got too big for me to keep working on especially with all the janky workarounds I had been using to stay in the good graces of the Scratch engine. I coded this (I'm pretty sure) using a Stamping technique for my Tilemaps and actually for everything so that I can write stuff over on a pen layer and use clones purely for the text engine. I tried to store stuff fairly efficiently and there is a built in editor which is how I build the game that I don't think I bothered to remove access to... you can find the button to activate it, if you're clever ;) (Be careful just pressing random buttons though because you might accidentally delete the whole game :O) This was kind of a proof-of-concept for me; I wanted to see how atmospheric I could keep a game while adding exploration mechanics. The controls are definitely on the slipperier side which I PERSONALLY liked, though as the creator you become blind to certain FEEL problems. I've kept that in mind for my latest C++/Raylib project, and I potentially WILL come back here to test ideas since it's easy to throw stuff together and your feedback will be invaluable (all 3 of my followers still left on Scratch)! To be honest, Scratch was a huge part of my childhood and it's still nostalgic to look at games I used to play and surf my endless sea of unfinished projects. To be honest, Scratch was a huge part of my childhood. I'm still more-or-less inactive, but I'd love to come back someday and finish a few bigger projects just to pay homage to my roots. I hope this demo can bring joy to a couple people out there, and someday, I really hope to release a real game that can go bigger than Scratch, filled with what I have learned to cherish in a game as an artform. If there's one thing I've learned recently, though, it is that as long as I live, I will never stop making things. So stay tuned, and Scratch On! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Credits *************************************** I am so sorry as I have forgotten where I took many assets in my project, so please if you know the creator of an asset, let me know and I will credit them! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - : Almost all artwork, tilesets, player, entities, icons, etc - @... : I definitely stole the text engine - @... : I'm pretty sure I remember taking a sorting algorithm although I don't remember what for... - : Turricane II assets (an enemy, explosion sprites, and a couple sounds) - FromSoftware Darksouls Sound Effects - Nintendo Twilight Princess Menu Sound Effects
