Happy Juneteenth! For those who don't know, Juneteenth is also called Freedom Day. It was the day that the last African American slaves were informed that they were free. Juneteenth takes place every year on June 19th which hints the name. The last slaves were in Galvaston, Texas. This is actually the 5th Federal Juneteenth celebration with President Biden signing it on June 17, 2021. In a way Juneteenth is kinda the Black 4th of July, that's celebrated in June, however this doesn't mean that African American families won't celebrate or partisapate in 4th of July celebrations. The first "Juneteenth" or final day of slavery was in 1865, however the next year in 1866 small African American communities in Texas also did Juneteenth celebrations previous to it becoming a federal holiday. Well I hope you learned something new about Juneteenth!
