I wanted to make a point. ok guys. we’ve all heard it before. the world is burning discrimination is rampant humans are evil yada yada. here’s my argument. what if we’re not? or less what if the world isn’t burning? think about it. like really think. by what standard are we comparing this “world burning” idea to? the 1900’s? in what way was the 1900’s better than now? early 1900’s was world war ii. racism was commonplace and it was illegal to be openly lgbtqia+. this will be focusing mostly on America cause that’s where I live. mid 1900’s was the Cold War where everyone lived in fear that the world would be destroyed any day. By what standard do we mean to compare? the amazing utopia we all dream of? cause ima be honest. that’s just dumb. it’s ok to want to do better, but it’s not realistic to compare our still growing and changing society to your ideal. which, not to mention, is different for everyone so there is no set level of a “perfect world” other than the cliches you’re taught in kindergarten, which grows more and more complicated when you actually start applying real world conflicts. the ultimate reality is that we are doing better than we ever been. the only reason we’re all convinced we’re in crisis is because of 1. political candidates 2. the internet perpetuating everything and every individual video or clip talking about a different problem that makes the world seem like it’s in chaos and 3. that we have tied our very being as humans to being cold and cruel. when you believe truly that you are selfish at heart, you start to manifest it in your daily life. and you can go right down to cavemen humans are not solitary creatures, try as we might we all crave connection. we are all the same species. we want love, we want acceptance, we are social. And now I’m going to circle back around to the internet statement. these problems are coming to your awareness now because the internet is accessible throughout the world, and you only live in one tiny corner of it. in reality these issues existed before, you just never knew because international connection wasn’t as easy. do you really believe all of this that’s happening now wasn’t happening before? I tell you what, depending on the situation that could be an incredibly turtled way of thinking. to assume something is only real because you know about it. maybe it wasn’t real to you but it was real to others. To put a complicated explanation short, no, we are not dying, we are not in mass turmoil. finding the root of the problem and seeing the problem means you’re already half way there. the world is not as worse as it’s ever been, this is just the first time that you’ve genuinely realized just how complicated and challenging living a human life really can be. and you’re scared. but despite common notion, humans are not heartless, nobody is. you can’t be alive or human without one. people are products of the life they lead, even if they don’t know it. we aren’t as complicated as we credit ourselves to be, and when it comes down to it, we need each other Lots of love, always ❤️ [note: my statements do not contradict each other. human lives are complicated and layered, but humans, instinctually, are not.]
This is some intense rambling so strap yourselves in Ew I hate her paws ew
