It was time. Her mother had tied her head fur back in a bow as usual, and she was wearing a new pair of glasses; much like her other ones, but sparkly. They cost a fortune, but looked nice enough. Saffron's paws seemed to drag as she sat amongst her fellow children and citizens. The announcer on stage was dressed fancily too; in an almost dazzling manner that made its eyes burn. The announcer continued with the usual speech before finishing it with, 'Happy hunger games! And may the odds be ever in your favor.' Now was when Parslin really began paying attention. The announcer had their paws reaching in the glass globe of child's lives, names, possibilities of thousands of deaths. She picked oneout and read. Thump thump. went its heart. 'Our first is.. Lovey Calcutt!' Okay. Not Saffron. Back in went their paw plucking out another slip of paper. And she read. Thump thump. went Saffron's heart. 'And out second tribute is..' Thump thump. went its heart again, as hearts do. 'Saffron Parslin!' No. No thanks, actually. She stood up on her paws delicately, feeling about to cry. But she did not. And therefore she walked tentatively on stage with peacekeepers herding her on. Was that really her name? Saffron Parslin, district 5? It supposed that was true. Saffron stood beside the announcer, ears and tail showing its emotion of fear to the whole crowd. Her mother was watching. Her father, too. Oh well. Things happen. And this may have been the worst of all.
