Scratch cloud variables can’t store letters, only numbers. To work around that, I made this encoder and decoder system. How it works: When you enter some text, the encoder converts every letter into a two-digit number. For example, A = 00 B = 01 C = 02 ...and so on. Once the entire message is converted, all of the numbers are combined into one long string and stored in a cloud variable. That completes the encoding process. Decoding works in reverse. The decoder reads the cloud variable two digits at a time and converts each pair back into its corresponding letter. For example: `0015151104` becomes: `APPLE` One limitation is that Scratch cloud variables can only store up to 256 digits. Since each letter uses two digits, that means the maximum message length is 128 letters. Because of this, cloud variables aren’t ideal for storing long messages. This encoder/decoder is designed for shorter text, such as storing usernames in highscores. Scratch usernames can only be up to 20 characters long, but this system supports up to 25 characters because... why not have a little extra room? To use it, backpack the two sprites included in the project One sprite handles encoding, one sprite handles decoding Broadcast Encode to encode a message, and broadcast Decode to decode one. Before encoding, open the encoder sprite and set the input variable to the message you want to convert. After that, you can use the encoded output however you like. This project is free to use, but please give credit to me, @ItsLillie if you use it in your own projects. Project does not yet support: Spaces Capitalization Special characters BUT I will add them later when I'm not tired of coding because I kid you not I spent like 4 hours on this and I lwk prolly overcomplicated it. if you wanna test to see if this works, set a message, broadcast encode, reload/refresh the project then broadcast decode.
