White Poppies || Silk's Reaping || Backstory || THGRP ........................................................................................ The sun was shining, but nobody enjoyed it. All the cats of district 8 stood in the stony plaza and held their breath as two figures stepped onto the cracked stone stage. Silk stood beside her older brother, her medium-length fur blew in the slight wind. Her mother's laced-trimmed dress covered with a translucent coat made Silk's icy blue dress and white, off-the-shoulders sweater feel a tad too simple. The figures stepped onto the stage. After the black cat with gold eyes and heart shaped pupils talked for two whole minutes, Silk zoned out. She was jolted awake by her older brother: Needle. "Hey, Silky they're pulling the names out." "Chrysanthemum Ivyer" "Astrid Ahmadi" "Hearth (Idk)" "Quilt (Idk)" He stuck his ridiculously pink paw into the bowl. "Silk Needlen" n-no why... why had it been her, she only submitted once right? and w-why the side of the bowl wh-why not the middle the black tom had picked from? W-Wh-Why not the middle again? Silk could feel her eyes burning with tears, her whole body shook; the wave of emotions crashed down on her, for a second she could not feel or move a muscle in her body. As she walked to the stage her body shook with every step, it was like she had fallen from the factory roof down onto the basement floor. But before she knew it, she was on the stage. Her eyes still burned with tears, threatening to overflow. Silk blinked again and again, but the tears still came. One drop landed to erode the stage. She wanted to win not for the luxury but to survive, yet she could not think of all the cats that would need to d!e just for her to win. She knew she couldn't win. She was just a kit who only leant her skills from making scarfs. Silk's heart throbbed, the wave of emotion was coming closer and closer and closer and suddenly it crashed. The waters of sorrow, fear, anger, and numbness flowed on her, pushing her under until she hit the bottom... But no it was not the bottom it kept pushing her endlessly down... down... down... Silk opened her eyes and there she was standing on a splash of tears on the stage, her cheeks were surprisingly sticky. The other district 8 tributes were leaving, Silk walked to them, down the stage. "Hey, Silky it will be alright." her brother said. But with such a rough tone and those glittering blue eyes Silk knew-she knew that Needle had strained the words from his throat. As they walked to the train, Silk drifted from the ocean of hopelessness to the sea of numbness and pointlessness. Silk closed her eyes knowing that the waves would carry her under. Then she opened her eyes, she was at the train station. "Here." said Needle with red in the sky-blue eyes Silk had always loved. He shoved her flame-colored scarf and cream-colored teddy bear into her arms. Silk fell down. "oof." said Silk. She laughed. And Needle smiled despite the tears in his eyes. Silk stepped onto the train. "Burn like flame out there." Needle whispered softly. "I will." Silk whispered in reply. ........................................................................................ ~The End of The Beginning~ ........................................................................................
