I’ve created possibly the most cursed layout ever created in RO-Scale Sandbox. This layout includes many strange areas, an entire segment of track that is entirely green, a boiler obsession, and pathetic consists. Much better than my previous questionable layout! Note that a lot of these pictures will become outdated very quickly. I adding new stuff to this every day! Update for June 22nd: New additions to the layout! Custom boxcars, a caboose, and a roundhouse have been added to the layout. Picture 1: The map. A good section is cut off, as that is just the tracks leading up to a massive hill. - The trains - The Speed Rider (No. 2): The original train permanently used here. This engine can get three times the speed of a typical engine and has a seat, though nobody can use it because your head would interfere with the signs and bridges. This train is never redirected off of the speed line and typically hauls long freight trains. For some reason this one derails freight cars very easily. I also made an older version of the Speed Rider and an unpowered unit, but the unpowered car was never used and the old version is no longer in use. At one point I made an upgraded version called the Bolt Rider but lost it after forgetting to save. GWEEN (No. 703): A Berkshire used on the green line. This engine was originally the only green line unit, but more were added as it struggled to make it down the hill to the junction. A completely custom-made tender exists for this unit which uses wooden train cars as the trucks. A few other Berkshires exist scattered around the layout which are derailed and not in use. The Slug (No. 1020): A CSX slug that I was formerly using for the boiler switcher, but after the construction and testing of No. 96 replaced a Burlington Northern engine used on the hill line. It now resides there and is barely in use. The Boiler Switcher (No. 96): A locomotive completely custom-built. The tender is based on that of No. 703 with some minor modifications. This engine is powered by steamed hams, in which the coal is replaced with hams. This engine for some reason got stuck very easily when it was self-powered, and as a result a Conrail bug is used as the front tender truck. The back tender truck is a British wagon. This engine is used exclusively for boiler-related services. The Clearance Tester (No. -2): This engine was made for testing clearance, but doesn’t really matter, as there are already many sections with very low clearance. This engine didn’t work on its own and as a result is powered by two Conrail bugs at both ends. This engine is based on the Speed Rider. The B Unit (No. 8201): This F7B is used on the green line to help No. 703. Ever since I last respawned it, it has been moving in the opposite direction of other green line engines, so it is a detriment to the other units. The GP9 (No. 6250): This engine is used for helping the other two on the green line. It is always at the back, while 703 is at the front and 8201 is in the middle. No. 85792748: The only British engine in the roster. This one isn’t permanently coupled up to any train but is used in case any other trains need assistance, predominantly helping the green line trains make it back up the hill. I gave this one the maximum power level. - The cars - SALVATION Boxcars: These SALVATION cars are the typical cars used for when no other custom freight car is suitable, and replaced the 50-foot boxcars and tank cars formerly used. There are two versions of these cars; the earlier version has wooden train cars as the trucks, while the later version has 34-foot gondolas that, instead or acting as trucks, make the train articulated similar to an early Marx articulated model train set. Both variations are based on the tender used on No. 96. The articulated version is optimized for the Speed Rider. There are 5 early cars and 7 late cars in service. “BOIELR PART CO.” Boxcars: These two cars replaced the 40-foot cars formerly used for the part service. They are essentially differently-colored/lettered SALVATION boxcars. Originally the cars were built with Conrail bugs at both ends, but now one end has a Conrail bug while the other has a wooden gondola. Two of these cars are in use. “ROBERT” Caboose: This car is based on the Salvation boxcars with no doors, a shorter body, a cupola, windows, handrails, and a modified roof. It replaced a Southern Pacific caboose used on the green line. For whatever reason it didn’t work with un-powered Conrail bugs so this caboose is actually powered.
