Yawning, xe looked around the nursery. Everyone was there. Crow, Morning, Pansy, Symph, Raine, Crystal... Wait. There was no Raine. Where was she? Most of camp was still asleep, but Lus left the nursery anyway to find her. She wasn't right outside, so they began calling her name. "Raining! Rainingkit! Where arrrrrre you? Come on, Raining! Stop hiding!" She didn't answer. Then xe started saying all her nicknames. "Raine? Rain? Where the forest are you? Tac'o? Tac!" She didn't answer. Hmmm. Maybe she was playing hide and seek with another kit. Maybe she thought that Glad was the one looking for her. Xe saw a warrior pass by, and asked, "Hi there, do you know a kit called Rainingkit?" He just shook his head, bowed and walked away. Then they asked another. This time she muttered some sad words and patted Gladi. What was happening? Xe ran back to the nursery and inspected the nests. All of them were filled but Tac'o's. So... she wasn't hide and seeking? Then what happened? Going back outside, they noticed a bunch of warriors and apprentices in a circle around something. Gladi bounded over, but was stopped by yet another warrior. "What are you looking for?" he asked. "My friend, Rainingkit," Glad replied. He frowned. "She's... she's not here." "Can I check? Maybe she's hiding. "No, she's not here because... Rainingkit is d3ad, dear." Then he walked away. D3ad? Wait. No. That meant something wouldn't be there anymore, right? No. That meant... Rain wouldn't be there anymore. No. No... They called out one last time, though xe knew she wouldn't answer. "Rain...?"
