Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS) is a neurological disorder where individuals constantly perceive tiny, flickering dots or "static" across their entire visual field, 24/7. Often described as looking through an untuned television or a shaken snow globe, the static persists with eyes open or closed.Because VSS is a complex neurological condition rather than a traditional eye issue, it involves far more than just visual static. A formal diagnosis typically includes the persistent snow plus at least two additional visual symptoms from the following categories.Visual Snow: Dynamic, continuous, tiny flickering dots, often black-and-white but can be colored or transparent.Palinopsia: Experiencing trailing afterimages of moving objects or seeing lingering "ghost" shadows.Photophobia: Extreme sensitivity and intolerance to light.Nyctalopia: Significantly impaired or poor night vision.Enhanced Entoptic Phenomena: Heightened awareness of the eye's internal workings, such as excessive floaters or seeing tiny specks (white blood cells) darting across the vision when looking at bright surfaces.Non-Visual Symptoms: VSS is also frequently accompanied by tinnitus (ringing in the ears), migraines, severe anxiety, and general sensory hypersensitivity.
