Hi, hello, hi. (scroll to the bottom for some FAQ about the matter if you wanna know more) So I just wanted to talk about this new 4.0 thing- I don't really know how to feel about the change from 3.0-4.0 and this new NGP (Next-Generation Platform) website thing; especially with these new features. Am I just coping since I've been working on 2.0-3.0 my whole time on scratch? Maybe. Does it still make me feel slightly uncomfortable? Yes. The new studio stuff too, thats something I'm curious about, in fact thats pretty exciting to me (Studio Managers used to be able to edit the description and thumbnail, glad we got rid of that, please don't bring it back- on that note a cool idea though would be a co-hosting system where theres 3 studio ranks (which there already are) which are Curator, Manager, and Studio Host (or Admin, whatever you want to call it) and The studio Host can promote a managers to a host so they can edit the title and description- the only way around this is to make sure that the actual studio host can not be demoted or removed because of trolls etc.) Of course, enhanced explore page is an absolute godsend- (trending has been broken for a year and a bit, now I think? (since late 2024-early 2025, I think) Indexing having been fixed is certainly a step in the right direction) hopefully they can get some work done on cloud variables too- although I've heard they are back working from different people so the actual case is unbeknownst to me. I don't even use them anyway as I thought they were still broken to be completely honest lol. Customisable notifications sounds cool. Studio activity from studios you host (not just studios you were in- that used to be so bad XD, opening your inbox to find 8 messages of "there was activity in this studio you forgot you curated" or notifications when someone you follow shares a project. Project tagging changes I feel are somewhat unnecessary, but I usually don't tag my stuff anyway. I also kinda feel like the whole premise is redundant- we don't need a whole new platform as a change between 3.0 and 4.0 when they could just work on the current website (scratch DLC, I suppose) and a lot of people like the charm of the website, like the current homepage, navigation, and interface, etc. and considering the chaos that ensued after the 3.0 switch, I don't think it's worth the effort to make a whole new site, but simply roll out smaller updates, like new blocks or small new features like more emoji compatibility or more official emoticons, or custom site background or customisable site colours. lemme know your guys thoughts in the comments lol. I don't feel like this is a bad thing as such though. All things considered I look forward to this new change, hopefully they can execute it to it's fullest potential :) --- Some of the FAQ on the post: 1. Q: Is the NGP Scratch 4.0? 1. A: No – the NGP is a new platform that will act as a strong foundation for us to build Scratch 4.0 on. --- 2. Q:Are my projects and comments going away in the NGP? Can I keep my username? 2. A: Your projects, comments, profiles, studios, unshared projects, and backpack contents are not going anywhere. You’ll still have your username and be able to log in as you normally would when we’ve moved to the NGP. The move will happen automatically – you won’t need to do anything or claim your username. --- 2.5. Q: What do I have to do to move myself or my stuff to the NGP? 2.5. A: You don't have to do anything to move to the NGP. Your profile, projects, comments, studios, and backpack contents will be ready for you in the NGP when the move is complete. --- 3. Q: Is the NGP going to have AI? 3. A: There are no new uses of AI in the NGP. Our existing extension, Face Sensing, is powered by local-side AI (meaning it is powered on your computer, not a server, which is why for example an offline game doesn't require a network- all the data is stored on your device) --- 4. Q: Is Scratch still going to be free on the NGP? 4. A: Yes! Scratch is still going to be 100% free on the NGP. (Yay) --- 5. Q: When is Scratch moving to the NGP? 5. A: We're hoping to release the NGP by the end of the year. --- 6. Q: Can I use Scratch while you're moving to the NGP? 6. A: There will be some site downtime while we move Scratch from our current platform to the NGP. This will be temporary, and you'll be able to jump back in as soon as the move is complete. (peak hiatus opportunity /j) --- That's all I have on the situation, but I'll update this project as more info comes out :)
