Promise - a poem

- Promise - Open your eyes calm your trembling hands look around you what do you see? A room? A cliff? A river? A bridge? Get down from the roof walk away from the cars put down the razor please. Stop crying look through the tears rethink why you did this why you couldn't wait another day Now look beyond where you are see through your body you would expect the day to stop but the world doesn't remember you Traffic still honks birds still sing children still run but you're lifeless Swaying neck tied to the ceiling praying for your breath to return You didn't want to do this but it felt like the only option and now you're sobbing it's the only thing you can do now Severed connections from your body to your soul the thin line that kept it together is now cut and drifting Still you try to pull yourself back snap out of it but the damage is done now you're just grasping at empty air Then someone walks in screams at the sight they say your name but you don't wake up Once twice three times shouting And you still don't budge Now they're weak crumbled into a teary-eyed mess shaking beside the body wondering why you left without goodbye Now you're really trying to return using all your strength "I'm sorry" "I'M SORRY" You scream so loudly that it hurts you feel your throat ripping but you scream louder and louder still they can't hear you They never will The day you jumped the day you drowned the day you stabbed You made a promise A promise to end it all a promise to never go back a promise that you won't regret it... ...right? It's too late now after all, You can't go back on a promise
