Jessica began sailing at age 14 and officially announced her solo circumnavigation in May 2009. Her journey, aboard her yacht Ella’s Pink Lady, lasted from 18 October 2009 to 15 May 2010, covering 210 days at sea. She navigated some of the world’s most remote oceans, survived seven knockdowns, and sailed through extreme conditions, including 10-meter waves and 130 km/h winds near Cape Horn. Although her route fell short of the official 21,600 nautical mile requirement for a circumnavigation by about 2,000 nautical miles, she successfully crossed all meridians and the Equator. Her voyage made her a national hero in Australia, and she was welcomed by the Prime Minister upon her return.
Jessica has inspired me to be who I want to be!
