"It was my idea; I thought it'd be fun to play animals," she said shakily. I gulped; Kestrel had taken the fall for me...Even though I was the one who suggested wearing our tails. John stood there. "Trash them both," he growled, practically hissing. I took a step back towards the back door. "No," I said under my breath. John stepped towards me. "What did you say?" he asked in an eerily calm voice. "I said no, I'm not trashing it" I said more confidently. My brother's eyes grew angry. I dashed towards the door, throwing it open and running towards the beach. It was still practically empty, but Jay, Milo, and River were still there. I rushed over, hiding behind the group. They all stared at me like I was crazy. "I'll explain later; just hide me," I squeaked out, trying to fight back the tears. I cringed at the sounds of yelling and smashing glass. But all I could do was hope. I saw a shadow darting out a window and running towards the house next to ours. "Thank you," I said as I dashed to Kestrel. Kestrel was panting, her face pale with horror. "I tried to get out of there, but I smashed a vase by accident," she explained, holding up her hand with many deep cuts. She pulled me into a bush in front of the neighbor's house as we saw the figure of my brother searching the area, screaming curses. I wrapped Kestrel in a tight hug. "What do we do?" I whispered, tears streaming down my face. Kestrel shook. "My phones are inside, and you didn't bring yours. We can't do anything until John goes in another direction," I said. "Who's John?" a shy voice asked. Kestrel and I practically had a heart attack. It was Jay Kovačev, leaning against a tree. "I'm here to help," he shared. River and Milo appeared right next to him.
