I also hadn't heard of CIP before, but it was really interesting to learn about and I would like to help spread awareness of it now! ☛ he will remain male, and will use he/him! | he's a bi boy :3 ☛ creative, spirited, quirky, caring (+), introverted, cautious, observant, a little chaotic lol (=), quick-tempered (so a little bit of an anger issue), critical, sarcastic, has trouble communicating emotions ☛ CIP (congenital insensitivity to pain) is a rare disorder that is inherited by birth, causing the affected to be unable to sense or feel pain. This includes pain from fractures, burns, wounds, and more. Usually they aren't able to feel pain anywhere in their body, and this leads to there being problems since there is no pain response to things that will hurt them. This means the brain can't form the connection that "if i do this, it will hurt me," which will lead to repeated injuries without much notice. While I haven't been able to find much on how it affects cats specifically, I do have some on dogs and humans, and it could possibly be caused by a variant in the SCN9A gene, which provides instructions for making sodium channels which plays a key role in a cell's ability to generate and transmit electric signals. This would likely explain the lack of pain signals being sent to the brain. A cat affected by this may have repeated injuries and difficulty healing. This will also affect the cat's sense of smell, since it is transmitted by a subsection of that same gene. Other than this, the rest of the cat's body is basically normal, so it can still feel textures and whatnot. ☛ I feel like Gleaming will be a little ball of fire so to speak lol, always trying to brighten others' days but also quick to burst into anger! He will work on this as he ages however, wanting to improve so he doesn't hurt anyone he cares about. | His scent is that of a warm vanilla candle! (even if he can't smell it T-T)
