Here are three Biblical facts that you probably didn’t know (pt. 3). Enjoy! :D 1. The forbidden fruit wasn’t an apple. The Bible never actually identifies the fruit in the Garden of Eden as an apple. It is simply referred to as the "fruit of the tree." The apple assumption comes from Renaissance art, likely influenced by the Latin word malum, which means both "evil" and "apple”. 2. The Magi weren't necessarily three kings. The text never states there were exactly three wise men, nor does it call them kings. It simply mentions that they brought three specific gifts (gold, frankincense, and myrrh), which led to the traditional assumption of three men. 3. The Bible does not specifically say that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. In the Old Testament, the book of Jonah says: "The Lord provided a great fish to swallow Jonah”.(Jonah 1:17) The original Hebrew uses the phrase "dag gadol", which literally means "great fish." It does not identify the animal as a whale. In the New Testament, Jesus of Nazareth refers to the story - "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish”. (Matthew 12:40) The Greek phrase is "kētos" (κῆτος), which means "great sea creature," "sea monster," or "large fish." It is likewise not a specific biological term for a whale. God bless! :D
