There are two boxes at the top of the screen; one for the Long A sound and one for the Short A sound. Both of them are gray. Some of the words below in the yellow boxes have the Long A sound and some have the Short A sound. Students need to drag the yellow boxes to the label above indicating the correct sound. When they drag it to the correct one, the yellow box should flash several colors, then shrink. Unfortunately the script has not been completed and both of the boxes are the same color. Have students select a different color for each of the top boxes. Then have them see inside the scripts and set the color sensing script to the color of the box above with the correct sound label.
This activity is recommended for grades 1 or 2. It can be replicated with content for older kids. You can also challenge the kids to add their own word sprites to the game or even replace all of the words (in the costume tab for each sprite and in the backdrops section of the background) while keeping the game working properly. This is a fun way to review common core math standards while learning programming concepts.
