»»-----------------» We decided our canines were too socialized with humans...so we had to send them to sanctuaries. It was tough, but they're okay. We visit them occasionally. So yeah. We've been living off grown crops, fish, and some meat that was in the freezer from when they were still here, but now we can eat fresh wild meat again, thanks to my bow. I'm going to be up late as well, trying to hunt raccoons, since we have tons over here. I've put out some wooden shipping pallets in the woods and one of the meadows, with various foods (meat, mixed birdseed, bread, corn, and some veggies like celery) placed on each. I'm hoping that I'll see some animals like rabbits and raccoons come to eat, and be able to hunt them.
Of course, I still fish, and I might experiment with trapping if bowhunting isn't enough. Yes, I try to be as close as possible to the animal and kill it humanely in one shot. Yes, I respect the animal I have hunted and don't waste anything. We're actually tanning the pelts of the animals now, so that absolutely nothing goes to waste. We put out leftovers such as bones and fat on the pallets to bait more prey, or bury them in the woods for scavengers to do their job. I feel like bowhunting is slightly more fair than gun hunting, because you need more skill, aim, precision, and concentration than with a gun. It may be harder (I have missed shots on several squirrels today) but it's worth it. List of animals shot so far: --Groundhog (omg these make the best burgers) --Skunk (surprisingly it tasted good) --Bear (?!?!?!? I was cooking the skunk in one of my treehouses while I was hunting, and a bear smelled it and showed up. THEN IT STARTED TRYING TO PULL DOWN THE TREE. Of course I freaked out and shot it full of arrows.)
