Their lives are completely wrapped around work, friends, and (of course) each other. Since they have managed to have some balance and maintain everything in their lives, Hirano can't help but wonder: Is it time for the next step? Notes: HI!! This is my first public fanfic, so I hope you like it!! The title is from the song "Soft Spot" by keshi. Thanks for clicking on this, dears. <3 Chapter 1: Where it all started (prologue) Taiga Hirano always imagined that as an adult, he'd live alone. Not in a 'woe is me, I'm so lonely' kind of way, but in a 'I have my sh(tuff) together and don't need anyone else' kind of way. Having that privacy of his own home seemed like a great idea to him, even if he only ever shared a room with two different people in high school because he didn't have any siblings. All that changed, though, once Akira Kagiura entered the picture. At first, Hirano thought it was just a kind sentiment when Kagiura asked if they could live together once they were out of high school and college. It was his mistake for taking something that Kagiura said with a grain of salt. It would only come up every once in a while, so it wasn't taken to heart fully. Until Hirano was about two weeks away from graduating. They were already happily dating, and tests were over. Hirano and Kagiura were out on a warm Saturday afternoon, going to a plaza and walking inside stores, buying silly items. The couple were having a good time, even if they were deliberately avoiding discussing Hirano's looming graduation, when Kaguira blurted, "I'm going to miss doing this with you, Hirano-san." Hirano had smiled, placing the shirt he was looking at back on the rack. "Aww, I'm going to miss this too, Kagi-kun. But you'll be okay; it's only one year." He expected this to make Kagiura feel better, but when he looked into Kagiura's jade green eyes, he saw tears. "What am I going to do without you, though, Hirano-san?" The blonde felt his heart twist, and he frowned. "You're going to do what you've been doing, only..." he trailed off. Only I won't be there when you wake up. He cleared his throat, no longer making eye contact with Kagiura. "Can you promise me something, Hirano-san?" The taller one asked, a slight tremor in his voice, causing Hirano to glance up again and nod. Kagiura said, "Promise me, once everything is fine, we'll live together." The other hesitated as he mentally went down the path that would correspond to that. It'd be different from what he wanted to do initially as an adult, but who was he to deny Kagiura his request? "Of course. I promise," he stated firmly, ruffling Kagiura's hair affectionately, "You got it."
So, that's where Hirano was now. After he graduated high school, leaving a sobbing Kagiura behind, he focused extremely hard on his studies all throughout college, never letting anything get in his way. He got a part-time job to keep himself busy between days he didn't have classes and to get money to save up for later in the future. Hirano was living with his parents for the time being, which they didn't mind, because he didn't want to live in a dorm that didn't have Kagiura on the other side of the room. That year went by too quickly for his liking; it felt like time was slipping through his fingers. He went to go see Kagiura after he graduated (the ceremony was for parents, teachers, and other students only) and teared up at the sight of Kagiura holding his diploma. They hugged tightly for more than a minute after that. Kagiura himself decided to live at home as well for college, which he got a full-ride scholarship for, due to him getting scouted for basketball. The brunette swears up and down that he would do anything to have Hirano look at him the way he did then every day. There were many moments when Hirano was scared their relationship wouldn't be able to stand the pressure of everything happening in their lives. But it did, and for that Hirano was relieved. Like before, the years went by insanely quick, and in no time flat (four years, but still), Hirano got his aviation bachelor's degree. He walked that stage with his head held high, graciously and elegantly accepting his hard-earned degree. Kagiura attended the ceremony, crying into tissues the whole time. On the other hand, Kagiura was excelling on the college basketball team, at some point getting drafted into the minor basketball league in Japan. Everything was working out. Hirano applied for an airline job (that does, unfortunately, involve a lot of travel) and got accepted into the program quickly, so he left his part-time job for this one. As a pair, their salaries got them to a point that they've been reaching towards for years: A home. HI AGAIN! I'LL TRY TO UPDATE THIS AS QUICK AS I CAN. I genuinely hope you liked this little prologue, though!! xo mouse <33
