── ⋅ ── The Four Though each clan honors one guardian above the others, none of the Four rule Eldritch. They are caretakers, not creators. They do not choose leaders, answer prayers, or wage wars on behalf of their followers. They rarely reveal themselves, and whether they still walk the world at all remains one of its oldest mysteries. The Four are simply the keepers of what Eldra first gave them: earth, wind, water, and fire. Whether the clans have honored that gift or forgotten its purpose is a question only time can answer. ── ⋅ ── SYLORA Guardian of Earth • Life • Growth Sylora is said to be the eldest of the Four, though no cat can agree whether she truly came first or simply carries herself as though she did. She takes the form of an immense white stag (yes, she is represented as a female, though) whose antlers bloom with moss, vines, flowers, mushrooms, and twisting roots that change with the seasons. Despite her size, her hooves never touch the ground. Instead, she drifts silently above a blanket of pale mist, leaving behind fresh growth wherever she passes. Her eyes resemble polished amber filled with living forests, and it is said that anyone who meets her gaze can feel every joy and sorrow the earth has ever witnessed. Birds are rumored to nest among her antlers, while butterflies and glowing insects gather around her like drifting stars. Sylora embodies growth, healing, endurance, empathy, and memory. To Groveclan, every ancient tree, weathered stone, and forgotten ruin carries part of her spirit. ── ⋅ ── ZEPHROS Guardian of Wind • Sky • Freedom Zephros is depicted as a colossal griffin unlike any creature found in the wild. His body is impossibly lean, with vast wings woven from clouds and pale feathers that seem to disappear into the sky. He has no forelegs beyond those wings, giving him a graceful, almost serpentine silhouette in flight. Four bright eyes watch every horizon at once, while four feathered ears constantly turn toward the whispers of the world. No cat has ever seen Zephros land. Stories claim he rides storms instead, circling endlessly above Eldritch until his feathers dissolve into the clouds themselves. When dawn catches the wind just right, some say the shimmering currents overhead are simply the edges of his wings passing by unseen. Zephros represents freedom, vigilance, wisdom, curiosity, and change. He reminds his followers that nothing in nature remains still - not the wind, not the seasons, nor the hearts of living creatures. ── ⋅ ── NYRITH Guardian of Water • Memory • Adaptation Nyrith is an enormous serpent whose body seems to stretch endlessly beneath the water's surface. Their scales shimmer like polished river stones beneath flowing water, while translucent fins trail behind them like silk caught in a current. Shells, pearls, reeds, and strands of riverweed naturally adorn their body, not as decoration, but because the rivers themselves have claimed them as their own. Their eyes are deep and impossibly calm, reflecting not the present, but memories long forgotten. It is said that if Nyrith surfaces beneath a full moon, the water becomes perfectly still, revealing moments from the past within its reflection. They rarely move with urgency. Rivers carve mountains not through force, but through persistence, and Nyrith is no different. They embody patience, memory, adaptability, intuition, and peace. Deltaclan believes every stream remembers every creature that has ever crossed it, and that Nyrith watches not by seeing, but by remembering. ── ⋅ ── VAERYN Guardian of Fire • Renewal • Courage Vaeryn appears as an immense phoenix forged from living flame. His feathers shift endlessly between molten gold, burning crimson, glowing ember-orange, and black ash, shedding sparks that never ignite the forest unless he wills it. Smoke pours endlessly from his eyes like quiet tears, while his talons glow with molten stone that cools into obsidian wherever they brush the earth. Unlike ordinary fire, Vaeryn is said to burn without consuming. Trees touched by his wings are blackened, only to bloom brighter than before when the seasons turn. His voice is never heard, but thunderstorms and roaring wildfires are sometimes described as his laughter echoing across Eldritch. Vaeryn embodies renewal, courage, passion, determination, and transformation. Ashclan believes fear exists only to be overcome, and every ending creates the possibility for a new beginning. ── ⋅ ──
── ⋅ ── The Great Beyond ****TDLR: The cats of Eldritch do not have Starclan or the Dark Forest. They refer to the afterlife as 'The Great Beyond' and Medics pray to their Deities + Eldra, not other dead warriors. Unlike other worlds, the cats of Eldritch do not have a "Starclan" or "Dark forest". Instead, all souls (regardless of their clan, rank, or beliefs) are said to journey to The Great Beyond after death. What truly exists there is unknown. Some believe it is a peaceful place where cats run beneath endless skies, while others believe they simply become one with Eldra herself. No living cat can say for certain. The dead do not return to guide the living. There are no prophetic dreams from fallen warriors, no ghostly patrols, and no visits from long-lost ancestors. Instead, they are believed to speak through the world itself. A sudden gust of wind, flowers blooming where none should grow, an unexpected rainfall, or the warmth of the morning sun may all be interpreted as signs, but whether they are truly messages or simply nature is left to each cat's own beliefs. Because no cat has ever returned from the Great Beyond, death is viewed with both reverence and uncertainty. Funerals celebrate a life well lived, while reminding the living that every creature eventually walks the Last Path. ── ⋅ ── Roleplay Information When a character dies, their story comes to an end. Deceased characters permanently enter the Great Beyond and may not be roleplayed again, whether as spirits, ghosts, or ancestors. This allows death to remain meaningful and ensures every loss carries lasting weight within the world. If you wish to continue participating after your character's death, you're welcome to create a new character and begin a new story elsewhere in Eldritch. ── ⋅ ── Common Phrases Since Starclan does not exist (and they're used a lot as exclamations in the world), cats may instead say things such as: "Oh, great Eldra..." "Dear Eldra..." "Mother Eldra..." "May Sylora guide you." "By Zephros' wings..." "Nyrith knows the truth." "Vaeryn give me strength." "Walk safely on the Last Path." "May the Four watch over you." "Until we all meet in the Great Beyond" ── ⋅ ── cw for this project is any season!
