Heres a book I have been writing for months! I originally posted it on @the_sweetest_lies but I'm posting chapters 1 - 2 here. I edited it a bit so its a bit different from the original. Press space to see a summary! Anyway enjoy ----------------------------------------------------- Chapter 1 “Nope” Lila said “I'm not telling him” Lila takes a long breath, nervous, hugging her knees to her chest, biting her lip. The four friends were at their usual spot at the lake. “Come on” Sabrina replies annoyed “You keep saying that for like what two weeks now?” “It's different now” Lila insists and Sabrina just rolls her eyes once more “What if I make a mistake and he thinks I'm like a complete mistake! What if he looks at me weirdly?” Zara chuckles “He already looks at everyone weirdly like they are an alien from space.” “That's not helping me feel any better of my situation” Lila mutters. Sabrina sits up straighter. “Lila if you don't say anything now, someone else will swoop in. "That's how this works." Lila sighs, and glances at the water her reflection rippling. “I just don't want to humiliate myself, you know?” There's a small pause, the birds are chirping and the water of the lake sounds relaxing. The sign that spring is coming Arielle speaks up wanting to comfort her friend. She tilts her head, her expression soft and gentle “He won't think that, Lila” “You don't know that.” Lila replies. Ari smiles a little “I know you” Zara raises an eyebrow “That sound weird, Ari.” Sabrina ignores Zara. “So you're saying that Lila should just confess?” Ari shrugs “I'm just saying” she pauses looking for a way to say it. “Like you said Sabrina, someone is gonna swoop in. Lila should confess before it's too late and someone else does it.” Lila pauses like she was thinking through the idea. “What if it goes wrong?” “You can trust me” Ari responded There's a small pause. “Okay, when the time is right" ----------------------------------------------------- Chapter 2 Even though Study Hall was more quieter than the other classes at Lakeside Preparatory it was still not quiet enough. Chairs scrapping against the floor, sound of pages turning, some students purposely doing it extra loud. The tapping of keyboards also helped the noise...not the students. Everyone was working, well they are supposed to be working but most were pretending. Whispers also helped fill the room. Lila just stared at her notebook, pencil in hand ready to write but her page was blank. She felt distracted, her thoughts drifting off. She had a feeling she couldn't quite explain. Ari in the seat beside her noticed. “Are you ok? You aren't writing and your page is empty.” Lila blinked like she didn't realize. “I am gonna write. Ari just gave a small understanding smile Sabrina across the room was neatly organizing her notes, highlighting important parts with her expensive highlighters, like she was trying to stay in control of her surroundings, that was Sabrina, willing to do anything for things to be her way. She looked like she was trying to study. ‘Probably for the English test" Lila thought. Zara wasn't doing any work, her eyes constantly drifting on different people around the room. She made herself comfortable, leaning back in her chair. Noticing movements, patterns, habits. But then she goes back to ignoring them. Ari moved in her seat, trying to get comfortable. She opened her notebook, wrote down a few notes for the English test. “You're quiet ”she said softly. Lila hesitates before responding. “I'm fine” she insisted. Sabrina sighs from across the room. “You guys always say that” she mutters not looking up from jotting down her notes. Lila looked back down on her notebook, writing her name. The room went back as it was. But the room felt uneven. Each girl felt something was going to go bad in the group, even though no one said what. Zara's eyes glanced at Ari but then back at her own laptop shifting it away to make it look like she was doing work the whole time.
