So basically they're called Soli. Soli are creatures made of light; they look humanoid but instead of hearts they have stars running their bodies, and instead of blood running through their veins it's electricity. They don't need to sleep because their hearts produce massive amounts of energy. As long as the Soli is active, this isn't a problem. However, Soli do have the ability to sleep if they want to, and when they sleep, their heart produces an excess amount of electricity cus they aren't using it. But once asleep, Soli don't wake up on their own. They must be woken up. If left sleeping for too long, the Soli will literally just combust due to the all the energy being trapped in their body. Modern day Soli use this energy to power their cities. It's basically like how people get called in for jury duty irl. Soli citizens get called in for Rest Periods where they sleep in Chambers (literally just small rooms withe a bed. Looks kinda like a hospital room in there.) underground. Rest Periods usually last about 2 weeks, then the Sol will be awoken and they just go back to living life. Anyways, while sleeping in the Chambers, the Soli's excess blood is drained and sent to the Reserve. The Reserve is a place underground in the core of the city. It's this giant room filled with cylindrical capsules of Soli blood/energy. They call this energy Lumin btw. The Lumin in the Reserve is used to power everything in the city. However, this process hasn't been perfected, and if a Soli's Lumin is drained too fast, it can actually be harmful. The heart will try to strain itself and produce more to keep the Soli alive. But eventually the heart will run out of energy and fizzle out, becoming smth similar to a black hole. From an outside perspective, there is no way of knowing when this happens until it's too late. Soli who meet this fate transform into corrupted versions of themselves that they call the Nul. The Nul consume light, longing for the Lumin their heart is no longer capable of creating. This is a big threat to Soli and their cities because they're MADE OF AND POWERED BY LIGHT. That's why they keep the Soli in Chambers while they sleep. If a Soli transforms into a Nul, the Chamber is sealed and all power in there is cut off. With nothing to consume, the Nul heart begins to eat the Nul from the inside until there's nothing left. The heart will shrink and eventually evaporate entirely. And then the Chamber can be used again! There's more but I'm too lazy to write it rn
