This is not a rant or meant to spread hate to the website, I just wanted to talk about something that I'm honestly noticing more with Artfight. Specifically, its attack rating system. In short, the current rating system is more rigid than I realized before. Due to its way of broadly categorizing a singular attack as just one medium or technique of art, this leads to the exclusion of mixed media or hybrid techniques in art. I noticed this first hand with this attack I made which incorporated both a doodled full body (which falls under "Drawing) and a headshot made of felt + some construction paper (which I would mark as "Textile Craft"). You may notice the issue already... I can only specify the art is EITHER a drawing, or a craft. I cannot say it's both or not strictly using one kind of medium in any way. Due to this, I had to settle for rating the attack as a textile headshot, as that's what I had to spend the most effort creating; as far as I know, the only way to circumvent the rating system in a situation like this, in terms of getting an accurate amount of points, is to make multiple attacks. This is clunky and has one glaring issue: it will effectively split the attack (one unified art piece, meant to be viewed as such) into multiple smaller parts, for no good reason. It will give the recipient more notifications, and the character's page will show two attacks for what should simply be a singular attack representing one art piece. It will lead to the creator having an incorrect battle ratio. The only benefit in this scenario is getting a correct number of points. Either way, there is some kind of disadvantage. This does not feel like a satisfying solution. Now, I understand why they don't have an extremely complicated rating system. It'd be confusing, especially considering they've kept how attacks are rated for multiple years. It'd be unwise to do a drastic overhaul for the sake of new and old players alike. However, keeping the exact same rating system will be at the expense of interesting and experimental art, and I don't believe this is in the spirit of Artfight! Having these attacks be entirely unratable could discourage artists from making unique pieces during Artfight, as they have no way of properly representing the attack, nor will they get an accurate amount of points. We should be encouraging unique techniques that'll surprise the people receiving attacks! And it's not only mixed media which is affected, with the current system, a fully colored drawing with character doodles or sketches on the side cannot be properly rated, for example, as you can only specify the *entire* piece is has clean line art or is fully colored. If I had to give my best suggestion, they could simply make it so individual characters in the piece can (perhaps optionally) be specified as using specific techniques, rather than limiting the specification to the whole piece itself. That is, an art piece could contain both a fully colored and cleanly lined fullbody, as well as an uncolored and roughly sketched fullbody, all in a singular attack. Existing attacks do not need to be changed, but now you would be able to add further specification to the techniques used in an art piece for new attacks. This will improve how these attacks can be presented and correct the points given to the creator's team. Overall, this system would greatly benefit the process of uploading attacks to Artfight. ok that's it bai be civil in the comment. k
