(I'm addressing my fellow star-spangled citizens here lol, I'm not assuming everyone here is American dw lmao) I know it may feel like things are heading in a bad direction or you don't like living in this country or you think Donald Trump is too orange to be in office, but let's just take a moment to be grateful that we live in such a wonderful place. Considering this place is just one massive social experiment set up by some creaky old dudes in 1776, it's truly miraculous that we've made it this long. Let's be grateful to live in a democracy where everyone's opinions can matter, where each person has equal rights and opportunities and no person has more than another, and anyone can have a successful future no matter their background, where they were raised, or anything else. (As long as, you know, you don't commit a felony. But that doesn't just happen to you, you have to make that choice! So you could've not committed a felony and led a successful life!) Lately has been a time of political strife, with lots of "my way or the highway" mindsets and cancel culture. It feels like people are being pushed to have an opinion that's either completely red or blue, and you can't stand in purple or with a foot in each side. This political polarization has resulted in lots and lots of disagreement, arguing, ruining of relationships, and worst of all, loss of life. Let's remember that we're all just people here. There's so much more to an individual than where they stand on a political spectrum. They have stories that shaped their life, interests, hobbies, favorite cuisines, family members, and so much more! I would know, as I am a person with all of these things. If you don't have these things, uh, I'm sorry, you probably have a sad life. My condolences. It doesn't matter that I'm a furry or genderfluid or aroace, there's way more to me than that very small portion of my identity! Not everything about me is about who I sleep with (nobody lmao) or what my pronouns are, and if you think that those parts of me suck, look beyond that. I'm an artist, fan of Hatsune Miku, Mexican food, and own two birds. If you think that these things suck too, then look beyond that! I've never broken a limb, I love rock climbing, I compose my own music, and I'm a conservative (in today's standards, at least). So, do you think that last thing sucks? Maybe! But as you can see, I'm a person just like you. Be kind to others, no matter their political views or interests or dislikes or anything else that you find controversial. And if you don't get along with them, you don't have to! You're not gonna be friends with everyone. But that doesn't mean you can torch them to the ground, literally or metaphorically. I don't know about you guys, but I wanna see this country's 300th anniversary as a democracy, the land of the free, and home of the brave. I want to see it together with all of you guys. Watch the fireworks. Eat barbecue. And if I make it that long, I wanna see the 350th. While I most certainly won't make it to the 400th, I want it to happen nonetheless. That would be so amazing. Because I'm so grateful and lucky to be born into this wonderful place, with a stable currency, little to no poverty or famine, and freedom to have my own opinions and be an individual. Let's keep that. Thanks for reading :)
