A lightweight preview of Scratch OS 3.21. /// About Scratch OS: Lightweight Preview is a condensed version of my six-year Scratch OS project. Instead of recreating every feature from Scratch OS 3.21 Technical Preview, this project focuses on the parts that best represent the personality of Scratch OS. It contains many of my favorite desks, apps, UI concepts, and experiments while remaining much smaller than the full operating system. Scratch OS is intentionally unusual. Instead of copying one operating system, it mixes inspiration from many different interfaces: - Scratch 0.3 - Scratch 1.4 - Scratch 2.0 - Scratch 3.0 - Windows 95 - Windows XP - Windows Vista - Windows 7 - Windows 8 - Windows 10 Technical Preview - Android - Old web browsers - Custom UI experiments The result is something that feels familiar, yet unlike any real operating system. ------------------------------------ /// This is NOT the rewrite This project is not the Scratch OS rewrite currently in development. The rewrite recreates Scratch OS 3.21 almost exactly, with hundreds of apps, desks, hidden features, and years of preserved history, but on real hardware, written in C, and providing actual functionality along with it (full browser, etc).
