Okay so here's the next chapter don't read it unless you've read the previous ones, I recommend reading KotLC first, may contain spoilers, idk, etcetera etcetera etcetera First: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1321736922/ Previous: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1325329064/ Chapter 4: Lily 'Lily.' 'Lily?' 'Lily.' There was a voice in her head, calling her name. Lily knew what that voice was; it was her conscience. Although, usually her conscience was telling her she did something wrong, not simply calling her name. 'Lily.' Maybe she was going crazy. She buried herself deeper into her book, trying to ignore the voice. 'Lily. Lilyyy! LLIIIILLLYYYYYY...' She frowned. Why did the voice have to be so persistent? 'Lily.' 'Lily.' 'Lily.' Come to think of it, the voice sounded kinda familiar. 'Lily.' 'What?' She thought irritably. To her surprise, the voice actually answered. 'Wait–Lily? Is that you?' 'Well, duh,' she said. 'But who are you?' 'Rhian, can't you tell? Does my telepathic voice sound different, or something?' She frowned more deeply. 'Rhian isn't a Telepa–oh, wait, yes he is.' He had manifested just recently, so it was to be expected that Lily would forget. 'But, yeah, your voice is weird. Sorta... Echo-y? Hollow? Distant? I dunno.' There was a slight pause, and then Rhian was back. 'I was just updating Matthew and Atlantis on what you were saying–' 'They're with you?' Lily interrupted eagerly. 'What about my parents?' 'Er... We haven't told them yet. We ourselves only just found out you were kidnapped; Matthew's and your parents' memories were wiped. But now that we do know,' Rhian added, 'we could rescue you! Where are you?' 'A library,' Lily answered. 'A library?' Rhian sounded confused. 'It doesn't seem like good a idea for your kidnappers to put you somewhere public...' 'Oh, no, I'm not with those people. I got away, and the library had a yellow "safe place" sign on the wall. So it seemed like a good place to hide.' 'Oh. So... You don't need rescuing, then?' 'Well, I still have no idea how to get back to the Lost Cities,' Lily assured him. Another pause. Then 'Atlantis says your registry pendant doubles as a leaping crystal to your house.' 'Oh...' Lily looked around guiltily, even though Rhian wasn't there to see her. 'Yeah... It's a little inaccessible right now.' 'What? Did they cut it off?' Rhian asked. 'No...' She hoped he would leave it alone. Of course he didn't. 'Did you lose it?' 'No, I have it here.' She pulled it out of her pocket and grimaced at it, remembering the smell of smoke. 'Then what's wrong?' If possible, Rhian sounded more confused than she sounded guilty. Lily felt an itching sensation in her hands and curled up in a ball, taking deep breaths in and out. 'It's just...' She peeked at the pendant again, then immediately closed her eyes, trying not to think about wave after wave of fire surrounding her. 'Some of the silver melted over it.' 'Melted...?' Rhian echoed. 'Did they... Burn you?' He sounded very concerned. 'Wait, do they have a P–' 'No!' She thought, trying to calm down her racing heart. 'No, they–' She couldn't continue. She needed to think about something else. She needed to move. She sat up quickly, carrying her book to one of the return bins around. 'So I can't use my registry pendant.' She was desperate for a topic change. 'How am I going to get back home?' 'Well, it would help if you could tell us what city you're in, at least.' Another small pause. 'Can you find a map or something?' 'One moment,' she thought, going over to the librarians' desk. "Excuse me?" She said sweetly to the librarian behind the counter. She pointed to a globe on the shelf next to the librarian. "Could you show me where we are on that globe? It's for summer school," She added quickly, knowing the librarian would be more willing to help if she said that. After a few minutes at the globe, Lily headed back to her seat, thinking, 'I'm in Windsor, Canada. Which means Winterwood is about fifty miles away. Is that where you are?' 'Yeah,' Rhian answered. 'It's good that we're that close, but we're still too far to walk or anything. Hang on.' this pause was much longer than the previous ones. Eventually, Rhian's voice came back. 'We're going to get Fade to steal my dad's pathfinder, and then Matthew will leap over to you as soon as possible–he'll meet you at the library. And then he'll leap you back to Rippleglean using his registry pendant. You still have your nexus, right?' 'Yup,' Lily answered. She looked at the shiny blue cuff around her wrist, which kept her from fading during leaps. The bar that signified when she would be able to leap without it was about half full. 'Anyway, Atlantis and I will be at Rippleglean,' Rhian continued. 'I'm going to un-wipe their memories–like I did with Matthew–but I'll do it after you ↓↓↓
get back, so they won't worry about you when we know you're fine. Atlantis will be making mallowmelt.' Lily's stomach grumbled at the promise of the delicious treat. 'Oh and by the way,' Rhian added, 'Atlantis was wondering how you know what city you're in.' 'I asked the librarian,' Lily answered, surprised Atlantis had asked. 'Why?' A pause. 'She says you wouldn't be able to speak the language.' Rhian then said, 'Matthew is asking if you're a Polyglot.' 'Oh.' It made sense that humans would speak a different language, in which case the only way she would be able to understand was if she were a Polyglot. 'I guess so. That makes two abilities in less than a week,' She added offhandedly. 'I already know which one I like better.' After a few moments of Rhian not talking, Lily realized what she had said, her eyes widening. 'Ack! Forget that! Forget what I just said!' But it was too late; Rhian had already caught her slip. 'Lily–did you just say TWO abilities?' Her hands were growing warm; she needed fresh air. She jumped out of her chair and ran out of the library. She sat down on a bench outside, attempting to calm down. Running had not helped. Rhian's voice rang in her head again. 'You said your kidnappers weren't the ones who set the fire and melted your pendant. Was it you? Lily... Are you a Pyrokinetic?' I'm evil, aren't I? To leave you like that. I suppose it isn't too big of a cliffhanger, but it's a big revelation and you surely want to know what happens next. Also hey, you got to meet Lily in this chapter! Do you like her? Credits!
