❥ Update 003. Backing Sunflower Even though Sunflower was backed by her previous owner (I think), it’s been a while since she’s been ridden, and she needed to get used to her new saddle pad before anything else. I walked up to her slowly, crouched down to set the saddle aside, and held the saddle pad in my arms. I let her feel my touch first, then gently lowered the pad onto her back, but she spooked and bucked, sending me and the pad flying. She looked back at me like she was checking if I was okay, then nudged my helmet when I sat up. I stood, petting her softly, then picked up the pad again and let her sniff it so she could get used to the smell. I grabbed the saddle too, deciding to continue tomorrow and take things even slower. I brought her into the barn, hung up her tack, and led her into her stall. Even though she bucked, today was still a pretty good day.
