Youth PMV -Of Sunset's story- Read it before you watch, otherwise the PMV won't make sense (TW: Contains death and mild blood) 2- Reference sheet of Sunset 3- Ship art of Sunset and Cloud 4- Sunset and her parent's family portrait Took too long for me to count accurately, especially since I spent multiple days working on it, but with the animation and writing the story it probably took around 7-9 hours. Sunset's design by @-SkullOfRosePack- Cloud's, Adrien's and Starlight's designs by me Code for the art by @-SkullOfRosePack- and code for the animation by me Songs: For the PMV: Youth by Daughter For the background: Wings by Birdy Written below is Sunset's story, but it's really long so you'll be in for a bit of heavy reading ;-; Sunset's Story (TW: Contains death and dark themes) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Queen Starlight of Avaris was starting to lose hope. Both she and her husband, King Adrien, were growing older, and had no heir to their throne. Anxiety stabbed her at the thought of this. It was only a few generations ago that her ancestors had been able to unite the warring villages that now made up Avaris under one rule. And if she and her husband died without an heir... Chances were that the precarious hold on that they had on the kingdom would shatter, and the wars would begin again. And Queen Starlight could not allow that to happen- even if it meant doing terrible things. --------------------------------------------------------------- Princess Sunset of Avaris stood in the courtyard of the castle, absent mindedly staring at a butterfly. Being a royal sure is boring, Sunset thought as she traced the butterfly's movements up the dark stone wall. Being a royal, specifically the next in line to the throne, meant that Sunset had to take lessons in the dullest of subjects almost every day. Today was one of the rare days when she didn't have lessons. But however much Sunset hated lessons, she hated not having them even more. At least lessons gave her something to do. In the castle, there was absoluetly nothing to do. Anything even vaguely interesting was forbidden to do. Take drawing, for example, which her mother had forbidden her to do, on account that "Sunset might stab herself with a pencil.". Sunset though this was ridiculous. How stupid did Queen Starlight think she was? It wasn't like she'd sudddenly stab herself with a pencil and die, was it? When Sunset had raised this point, however, Queen Starlight had just frowned, and said that she only forbade Sunset things to keep her safe. This, Sunset understood. Being the only heir to the throne, it was natural that her mother would want to make sure she was perfectly safe. Even if it meant sacrificing Sunset's happiness. -----------------------------------------------------------------
Sunset's story continued (read the part in the instructions first); "Hey, are you alright?" Came a voice. Sunset turned around, ready to answer that she was fine, but the words melted from her mouth when she saw the cat that had spoken. Standing before Sunset was the most beautiful cat she'd ever seen. She had electric blue eyes and a soft, fluffy, blue coat that reminded Sunset of a summer sky. "I-I" Sunset started, unsure what to say. "I'm Sunset." Argh, curse my stupid mouth, Sunset thought, I'm Sunset? Really? Now she'll think I'm an idiot. But the blue cat just smiled and replied, "I'm Cloud." Somehow, despite Sunset barely knowing what to say to such a pretty cat, they held up a conversation, and eventually she started to feel more at ease. Cloud wasn't just pretty, she was funny and smart too. And for a reason unknown to Sunset, she seemed to like hanging out with her. However, soon the sun started to sink in the sky, and Sunset had to return to her chambers. But even as her lady-in-waiting was calling out her name for her to return, Sunset turned to Cloud and begged, "When can I see you again?" Cloud smiled, her eyes sparkling as she said, "Whenever you want." -------------------------------------------- They met up many times in the following weeks, and spent the hours talking. Cloud told Sunset of life outside the castle, and the freedom of the wilderness outside Avaris. And as she spoke, Sunset couldn't help but hope one day Cloud might take her there. Sunset was daydreaming about this as she walked towards the courtyard in which they pair of them usually met. But when she saw what was there, her dreams vanished. Because laying there in the courtyard was Cloud. Dead. No, no, please no, Sunset begged silently as she raced towards Cloud's body. But it was too late. Cloud was dead. And there was only one cat who Sunset knew could have done it. Sunset barged into the throne room, not caring to knock. After all, the cat inside had just murdered Cloud. "MOTHER!" Sunset yelled, charging towards where Queen Starlight was sitting on the throne beside King Adrien, barking commands at the butler. At this, Starlight looked up. "Sunset. Indoor voice please." Starlight said, her tone perfectly neutral, a false smile spread across her lips like always. How could she, Sunset thought, show absolutely no signs of regret? She'd just k!lled a cat. And yet here she was, smiling away, like nothing had happened. "You k!lled her." Sunset said, her voice dangerously low. This caught Starlights attention, and for just a moment her smile faltered. She turned to the butler and muttered a quiet word, at which he scurried out of the room. "Yes." Starlight said, sounding bored. "How could you?! How could you do that?!" Sunset yowled, no longer able to contain her anger. "She was a distraction to you. You know you could not be with her. She was from the region of Argon. If you were to marry her, this would create tension with the region of Arden, which could cause a war, which would rip the kingdom of Avaris apart!" "You mean... you murdered Cloud because you thought that our relationship might cause polticial problems?!" "Sunset, you know that our kingdom is on unstable ground. I couldn't let you risk what we've worked for!" "What we've worked for? I've never wanted this. In fact, for all I care, I hope that Avaris does fall apart!" At this, Queen Starlight took a step back, shock rippling across her face as though Sunset had hit her. "I knew I chose wrong," She said. "What do you mean?" Sunset asked, genuienly curious. Starlight just laughed. "From the moment I walked out of that orphangae with you, I knew I chose wrong! You never should have been the heir!" Starlight growled. Sunset gasped, and stepped back, unsure how to react to this. But she didn't need to, for it was then that her father, well, not her father, but King Adrien, spoke. "She's not our kit? But you told me... Starlight, I thought we were a team!" "A team? A team?" Starlight laughed. "Adrien, we were never a team. You were just a tool to me. A useless, rusty tool." Starlight turned her back on him as she faced Sunset. Which would turn out to be her fatal mistake. "Anyways, Sunset don't you have a lesson to go-" Starlight started, but never finished, since with a sweep of his paw, King Adrien brought the life of the queen to an end. For a moment both Sunset and her father just stood in silence, before he said. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't stop her sooner. I'm sorry I didn't protect you. But you are free now." And it was with this that tears ran down Sunset's face, because at last she had the freedom she'd always wanted, but her freedom had come with a terrible price, a price that Sunset could never forget.
