Continuing on the steps of the 1st Western Expedition, the 9th, 8th, and 6th armies were mobilized along the border with the Beijiang Clique, poised for another offensive. As the war kicked off in April, the 9th and 6th armies quickly broke through the Beijiang lines, supplemented by large popular support, and began a double-envelopment of the Beijiang forces fighting against the 8th. This resulted in the encirclement of Beijiang's premier force, the Dragon Army, and left the rest of the Clique significantly weakened, leading to the coastal capital of Yuzhou being captured on the 13th of May, and forced the Beijiang to an unconditional surrender.
