Story 1: Pebblesplash and Fawncloud The forest was quiet beneath the pale light filtering through the trees. Fawncloud and Pebblesplash sat together away from the noise of camp, the two cats finally having a moment where they could speak honestly. For a while, neither of them said anything. They both knew what they felt, but saying it out loud was different. “I don’t want to lose you either,” Fawncloud finally murmured, her voice soft and full of emotion. Pebblesplash looked at her, surprised. “Then… maybe we shouldn’t let fear decide for us.” Fawncloud looked down at her paws, thinking about all the whispers and opinions that might come from the Clan. “I’ve spent so long thinking about what everyone else would say,” she admitted. “I forgot to think about what we want.” Pebblesplash’s expression softened. “And what do you want?” he asked quietly. Fawncloud looked back at him, her eyes gentle. “I want to be with you, Pebblesplash.” For a moment, Pebblesplash just stared at her. “You mean that?” “I do.” A small smile appeared on his face. “Then I’ll stand beside you… no matter what happens.” Pebblesplash’s eyes grew a little watery, overwhelmed by the moment. “Are you okay?” Fawncloud asked gently. He gave a small, embarrassed smile. “Yeah… I just never thought I’d hear you say that.” “Why wouldn’t I?” she asked. He looked away. “Because I thought maybe I wasn’t enough… or that everyone else’s opinions would matter more than how we feel.” Fawncloud moved closer. “You’ve always been kind to me. That’s what matters.” Pebblesplash smiled. “Then I’m glad I waited for the right moment to tell you.” “Heh.” A voice interrupted them. Pebblesplash’s ears twitched. “Tinypaw…” he growled. The younger cat scoffed, clearly trying to get a reaction. “Tinypaw, go away,” Pebblesplash snapped. “Okay, Rageface,” Tinypaw taunted. Fawncloud’s fur bristled. “TINYPAW!!! I WON’T TELL YOU AGAIN, GO AWAY!” Tinypaw blinked, surprised by Fawncloud’s sudden anger. “Whoa… okay. I’m leaving.” As Tinypaw walked away, Pebblesplash looked back at Fawncloud. “Thank you,” he murmured. Fawncloud’s expression softened. “I just didn’t want anyone ruining this for us.” Later, the two cats watched the Clan moving around camp. “I heard those kits were being made apprentices soon,” Fawncloud huffed. Pebblesplash glanced toward the nursery. “Those kits? Yeah… I heard that too.” “They’re growing up so fast,” Fawncloud said. “It feels like they were tiny bundles of fur yesterday.” “That’s how it always feels,” Pebblesplash replied. “One day they’re playing in the nursery… the next they’re ready to train.” Fawncloud smiled. “I wonder who their mentors will be.” Pebblesplash flicked his tail. “Knowing the Clan, everyone will have an opinion.” Fawncloud laughed softly. “Cats always have something to say.” Pebblesplash looked at her warmly. “At least we know whose opinions matter to us.” As the sun began to lower, Pebblesplash flicked his tail toward camp. “Let’s head back now, Fawny.” Fawncloud smiled. “Alright, Pebs. Let’s go.” They walked side by side, their steps peaceful. “I’m glad we talked today,” Pebblesplash admitted. “Me too,” Fawncloud replied. “I don’t think I’ll forget this moment.” “Neither will I.” Suddenly, Fawncloud’s eyes sparkled with mischief. “Race you back, Pebs!” She dashed forward, laughing as she looked back over her shoulder. “Hey! No fair, you got a head start!” Pebblesplash called, racing after her. “You’ll have to be faster than that!” she teased. Pebblesplash laughed. “Careful, Fawny. You might be surprised.” “We’ll see about that!” Back at camp, the two cats finally settled down after their race. Pebblesplash let out a tired breath and curled around Fawncloud, holding her close. “I love you, Fawncloud,” he whispered. Fawncloud went still for a moment, her heart filling with warmth. “You… really mean that?” Pebblesplash rested his head beside hers. “I’ve meant it for a while now. I just didn’t know how to say it.” A small laugh escaped her. “Mouse-brain… I was waiting for you to say it.” Pebblesplash blinked. “So you knew?” Fawncloud smiled. “I felt it.” His purr grew softer. “Then… say it back?” She curled her tail around him. “I love you too, Pebblesplash.” And beneath the quiet stars above camp, the two cats stayed together, knowing that whatever came next, they would face it side by side.
