Surface The player's starting area. This is where you can launch your submarine, view achievements, read collected expedition logs, upgrade equipment, and prepare for your next dive. Safe Base / Submarine Dock The headquarters of the Oceanic Research Initiative (ORI). Scientists monitor your descent and communicate with you through radio... at least until the signal begins to fail. Sunlight Zone (0–200m) The brightest and safest part of the ocean. Colorful coral reefs, schools of fish, and gentle currents make it seem peaceful, but signs of previous expeditions can already be found. Hidden Cave A secret cave tucked behind coral formations. It contains collectible resources, hidden treasures, and your first clue that something strange exists below. Main Path The primary route leading deeper into the ocean. Shipwreck The remains of a small research submarine. Inside, players discover the first expedition log and damaged equipment that hints at what happened to its crew. Twilight Zone (200–1000m) Sunlight fades, the water becomes colder, and unfamiliar marine life begins to appear. This is where the mystery truly begins. Kelp Forest A dense underwater forest where visibility is reduced. Hidden paths, rare resources, and strange sounds encourage careful exploration. Main Path The main descent continues into deeper waters. Research Lab An abandoned underwater laboratory once operated by ORI. Players can unlock submarine upgrades, recover research files, and learn more about the abyss. Midnight Zone (1000–3000m) No natural light reaches this depth. The only light comes from your submarine and glowing creatures. Every sound feels closer than it should. Crystal Reef A breathtaking cave filled with glowing blue crystals. Rare upgrade materials can be found here, but dangerous wildlife has made it their home. Main Path The deepest route toward the abyss. Giant Cave An enormous cavern so large your submarine's lights can't reveal its walls. Strange echoes and massive silhouettes suggest you are no longer alone. The Abyss (3000m+) Humanity has never officially explored this depth. Ancient ruins, impossible creatures, and unexplained technology fill the darkness. Ruins The remains of an ancient civilization buried beneath the ocean. Stone structures, mysterious symbols, and forgotten technology reveal that intelligent life once existed here. Core Door A colossal sealed gateway that blocks the entrance to the deepest part of the abyss. Finding a way to open it becomes one of the game's final objectives. Leviathan Nest The territory of the largest creatures in the abyss. Players must avoid or survive encounters while uncovering the truth behind these ancient beings. The Core The final area of the game. Hidden beneath the abyss lies The Core—the source of the mysterious signals, the disappearances, and the impossible changes in the ocean. Here, players finally uncover the truth behind Project Abyss and decide how the story ends.
