A ship crashes in the center of a forest on Earth, dust, smoke, branches and other rubble flying everywhere. The ship is a new technology where it came from, and stolen. The screen on the inside blinks coordinates—the location of where it crashed. Earth, The United States, Maine. Coughing, a single person climbs out. A demon, from a faraway planet called Dyad. She is fleeing from an evil unfathomable to those on Earth, something not quite human but not quite animal either. A shapeshifter. A conquerer, willing to do anything to get what he wants. She has curled gray horns like rams’ horns, pointed ears, blue eyes, and mid-neck length green hair. She’s the cousin of a demon prince, Leaf. Leaf is a soul demon, exactly like the Earth stereotypes for demons. But she’s a nature demon, connected to plants and animals alike. She can talk to them and ask them to do things for her. Fifteen years old. Alone in a strange world. A boy about ten years old is climbing trees in that same forest when the ship crashes. He falls out with a yelp, grabbing the lowest branch at the last minute to keep from landing and getting injured. He blinks, eyes wide. “What the heck was that?” He swings up to land on top of the branch, staring at the smoke in the distance. He jumps off the tree and sprints home where no one will believe him.
