Press flag so I can have a read count! ???'s POV [Ugh...Wha…?] I sit up, blinking. [Where am I? And...who am I?] I’m in a hospital, attached to beeping machines. A boy of about 16, with black hair, green eyes and a few freckles is sitting in a chair next to the bed I’m lying in. When I groan he stifles a gasp and stands up. “Taana? You’re awake!” He’s blinking hard, and I can see tears in his eyes. I manage, “Who...who are you?” He staggers back like I punched him. “You don’t remember- Not even me?” I shake my head, feeling like the worst person in the world when he sits back down, and buries his head in his hands, shoulders shaking. Just then a girl that looks a lot like him walks in and looks at us. “Taana...Jake? What’s the matter?” I wince and mumble,”I…don’t remember.” She pulls up a chair and studies me. “You were in a car crash-” her voice catches but she continues, “-and the doctors didn’t think you’d make it.” I don’t want to but I can’t help asking, “How bad?” She whispers, “You broke three ribs, got a major concussion, and… they- they couldn’t save your leg.” I look over at the boy- Jake- and he shudders. The girl introduces herself as Kira, Jake’s twin sister. As soon as Jake leaves to get a drink, I ask Kira, “How do I…did I... know him?” “He’s your best friend, and you two were thick as thieves…” She trails off and I nod. That explains his reaction. A nurse walks in and informs me that I should be out of the hospital in two weeks. I lay back, giving my aching muscles a break. [Yippee. Two weeks.I just hope Jake doesn't hate me by then...]
