[She doesn’t remember me…] I contemplate just walking away and driving home, but I realize I have to stay. For Ana. I smile bittersweetly at the memory of my nickname for her, a memory she doesn’t have. I take a deep breath and open the door, trying to smile convincingly but failing horribly. Ana tells me, “I...heard about how I knew you and I’ll try to remember, okay?” I grin, for real this time, and she returns the favor. Her face lights up as she tells me how she should be able to go home soon-ish, and she seems relieved. About what? No clue. But a weight lifts off my shoulders just seeing her smile again. She throws back the sheets and pales, collapsing into a faint.
