I’m away from home a lot more than I’d like, and when I am home, I’m often pretty busy. So this is gonna serve as a repository of ideas and such I’ve had that I either won’t ever be able to execute, or would as least take a while. I’d love any thoughts you guys may have on these btw. Be forewarned not all of these are super developed, they’re all ideas I had that I just found neat enough to remember and put down. 1. ARRPG where you play as the embodiment of an abstract concept that exists in a world parallel to ours shaped by human concepts. It’s split into four domains based on what type of concept it is (entertaining, monotonous, wild, or surreal) and this has a larger focus on exploration as opposed to combat 2. SHENANIGANLIKE where you play as a fantasy creature that has had to adapt to living in a modern city 3. EARLY WM-TYPE/SHENANIGANLIKE where you play as employees of an elevator company that has invented an elevator that goes to other dimensions. Players would have a “form” to fill out when they “discover” something new that promotes creating stuff and messing around 4. SHENANIGANLIKE where you play as creatures walking on a seemingly infinite bridge. Oddly, despite never branching off, everyone seems to have come from and are going to different places 5. SHENANIGANLIKE or ARRPG where everyone plays as humans in the far far future long after humanity has gone extinct, but each has preserved their life in a different way (brain in a jar, uploaded to computer, frankensteining, ascent to godhood, etc) 6. SHENANIGANLIKE or ARRPG in a weird magic circus. I just think it’d be neat because you have options for characters (clowns, freakshow, performers) 7. SHENANIGANLIKE or ARRPG where you’re a transforming robot. Legally not transformers but I’m a MASSIVE transformers nerd and I think it could make a fun premise. Maybe it’s just because I like drawing transforming robots I dunno. This probably won’t appeal to as many people 8. SHENANIGANLIKE where you play as a classical Halloween monster (would last the month of October, come back next year if well-recieved) 9. ARRPG/SHENANIGANLIKE that functions as a day/night cycle. Daytime it’s a chill shenaniganlike where you play as a regular person but at night you play as that person’s dream self in the interconnected dream world dimension thingy. 10. ARRPG/SHENANIGANLIKE similar to the previous system, but instead of day and night, you play as either a superhero or villain, and you have the option to make both a secret identity and a hero/villain identity 11. ARRPG where you play as one of many supernatural creatures released into the deserts of the southern US by holes punched in the fabric of reality by the trinity nuclear tests rallying under one of two teams, one being a chaotic abstract surrealism-themed being, the other being a straightforward nigh-monochromatic brutalism/modernism-themed being 12. SHENANIGANLIKE where you play as someone (not necessarily human) who was abducted by aliens and just kinda left in space, and now you’ve gotta adjust to this new strange world 13. ARRPG or SHENANIGANLIKE where you can play as either a cryptid/creature, paranormal investigator/preservationist, or a member of a men in black-type group, with the cryptids and investigators both opposing the men in black, but both the men in black and investigators seeking out and hunting the cryptids. I just think it’d be neat for the usual faction system to have different sort of faceted “alliances”
I use the term “SHENANIGANLIKE” a lot, and it’s just meant to mean à la the shenanigan dimension, wherein there’s no real standardized system, people just talk and find things on their own while also engaging via projects and character accounts and etc. essentially and ARRPG (arg rpg) except sans the dice and standardized combat encounters. My personal favorite part of the ARRPGs is the characters and their interactions, and I view the gameplay elements as very clunky when you also have to manage a story, which puts everything into kind of a weird limbo, and you feel obligated to engage in combat, even if you’re not a huge fan of it. So essentially an ARRPG à la OLW or TMC but only the ARRP elements.
