So basically, it takes place in the modern day. Throughout the Twentieth Century, countries would collapse and the ideals of fascism would spread across the world. There wouldn't be any 'Great War', just everyone fighting each other, like animals. By the turn to the Twenty-First Century, the world would be divided into thousands of countries. Each with a specific ethnicity, religion, history, language, geography, politics, etc. People would be fully blinded by war, only seeing 'others' as enemies. While a few nations would still have decent qualities of life, most would sacrifice everything just to be strong. Due to their small sizes, the production of nuclear weapons is difficult, though everyone has access to it, and those who make them can wipe out their enemies. They all weaponise viruses and chemicals against each other. Everyone is in a constant state of war, with civilians even killing each other when they come across people from other nations. There wouldn't be any peace, trade or alliances, only war. Countries lose millions of lives just for inches of ground. Anyone who even considers another way of life is considered a weakness and usually killed by their own family and friends. All the horrors of Fascism, the Thirty Years War and the Great War combined in a modern setting.
