Valuair began operations with 5 of these aging DC-9-30 Series jets, bought from McDonnell Douglas in 1992. They soon bought ten more, though one was lost on approach to Alayna in 1995. After the Air Alayna rebrand in 1998 (most likely to avoid negative press over the 1995 crash and because Alayna is the airline's main hub, plus the airline wanted to introduce higher-cost options to better compete with Aer Russellton and Schield & Southern Airways), the jets began to see replacement by the new Boeing 717s and the last jet flew for Air Alayna on January 21st, 2000. They are now RKS Air's JT8D part sources.
